So my girl friend put windows 7 on my samsung x360 and I just got around to installing secondl life on the computer. However, there game says there is lag and it not even going over 10 frames. However, on intel's site they say second life is one of the games on the list the 4500 can play with out an issue. Second life is also on low setting also. so how can i fix it?

sue intel for lying to you i guess.

just because the game says there is lag and it is playing at 10 frames per second doesn't really mean there is an "issue" per say.

well, you can update your intel gma 4500 driver to the latest version, and update windows.

You can also try lower the graphical settings if you haven't already.

I meant like in the control panel. In the ATi and nVidia control panel you can adjust for performance or quality; not sure about the Intel control panel.

it could be a windows 7 issue. maybe try windows vista or xp. also, make sure your resolution is also set to 640x480 or so. Maybe you have the resolution set higher even though your other settings are low?

I would think is a driver issue where the drivers on there aren't using the full potential of the gpu/not compatible with windows 7?

okay so installed the windows 7 drivers and I got slightly better results I am getting now 12fps second intead of 6 which is double, but still not good. My friend is getting better on her machine with the x3100 on her MBA(under both windows an OS X 10.5). Any other ideas? You said it might be windows 7 but vista wasn't good to me, too slow but 7 is way faster.

Since Windows 7 is a beta it's beyond the realm of this forum to offer suggestions other than what's already been posted. Does Second Life have a forum you can ask on?

yea I had major issues such as random BSODs during games, I wouldnt exactly call W7 stable, but it seems to be fine for some people.

Run in compatibility mode and set to the lowest graphical settings possible. What exactly wont work during the driver install?

I also have Intel 4500 as you. You can't expect much from this bad graphics. You may try different graphic drivers. I haven't try my laptop on Windows 7. However, I have problem with newest Intel graphic driver on Vista but resolve after used the older version, this may fix your problem.

Apparently if you read one of her post she said she installed the Windows 7 drivers(assuming from intel) with better results but nothing that the OP likes. I had to manual installed the Windows 7 drivers via the control panel but I don't see anywhere it say I can enable open GL/direct x?

It seems I am not the only one who don't read everything :)
From intel site, it says "Operating System:
    Windows Vista*, Windows Vista* 32".

You might get a better luck installing vista driver (v15.13.3.1787): http://downloadcenter.intel.com/T8C...e&agr=Y&ProductID=2979&DwnldID=17594&lang=eng

"Second Life" and "slow and laggy" are synonyms ... don't expect too much.

Realy? Then how is my friend on an older video card getting performance on the game? Okay so I went back to the vista drivers, now what? The game is still the same as it was with the Win7 drivers.

Well OP says they have Samsung x360 so it only come in a 1.2ghz or 1.4ghz Intel C2D ULV CPU, and ram is not going to be more than 4gb, with 3gb usually being the max for 32bit users. I would think she is using Win7 RC? Also that second link does not really show the newer intel Series 4 gpu data./

Yea gaming in W7 with only 2gb of RAM is a no no. I hit about 1.5gb while gaming in XP, you will easily hit 2gb in W7.

Get some more RAM and it will help. The intel graphics chips use system memory as they have none built in like a regular graphics card, so the more RAM the better.

Is the X3100 running under Windows 7 or Vista? If its running under Vista, its very possible the 4500M runs bad because Win 7 drivers aren't mature.

BTW, you don't need to use 3rd party software to see amount of VRAM being used. You can just use Intel's graphics control panel. The GPU uses dynamic memory allocation so you won't see high usage without running some 3D apps.

Second Life (for the short while I played it) was laggy even on my old dedicated ATI X1600 256mb.

I never had a problem the short while I played it on my CD MBP, then again, I don't remember what setting it was on, and I would think by now the tech specs have gone up a bit.
