Hmmm. Looks too much like Halo, unless it's more of an RPG like Mass Effect, but from video looks like a run and gun game. Do like the mech-like suits though.

i'm curious, why do you think it's a good game? the only thing interesting i saw in the trailer is the jump.

 

lol exactly what i thought. Its funny how the developers talk about section 8 and all that but when it all boils down, its just a new wrapper over halo-esque type game.

 

i just signed up for the open beta, i suppose this game could be appealing to people who likes Halo but doesn't have a xbox306, like me, i'll see you guys in the game.

 

I don't see what is so great about this game to be honest. I watched a few youtube videos and I don't see anything new or plagiarised in an innovative way. I can think of much more exciting games that are going to be released on the PC than this.

It's actually a lot of fun, though the OB client is missing a lot of features. IN CB we had a lot more things we could do.

 

It's kinda fun, but fairly generic outside of the gimmicky deployables.

There's also too much random crap going on for my liking, although I'm a fan of more down to earth straightforward shooting people in the face as far as FPS goes.

It definitely feels too cluttered for my liking, and like you said, there is too much stuff going on at once.
However, there are a few redeeming qualities:

• It's great fun spotting an enemy on the map and dropping down behind them
• The action is pretty fast-paced, if you ignore most of the objectives
• Capturing points etc gives it a slightly more strategic feel

 

It's kinda fun setting yourself up a little deployable nest of doom on an objective too, but the ability to do that is part of my issue with the game.

When it comes down to it the most enjoyable FPS games for me are the ones that include a bunch of guys with a bunch of guns, adding deployables, vehicles, airstrikes and all that crap just dilutes the core mechanic of guys with guns shooting each other in the face.

 

At first i guessed it would be a great game, then i played the BETA for hours and yes it is that darn good.

Halo knock off? No way not even close. This game has no qualities of Halo outside of regenerating armor(Everyone is doing that anyway). This game has one of the most unique respawnings ive ever seen they launch you out of a ship of something and you choose where you want to land and you character descends down until you use something like a parachute that brings you down.

If you try to respawn while flying down in some else's territory the turrets will shoot you down. I founds this game more ENJOYABLE the COD4 this is the way i felt. It also has a tribes feel, because you can repair anything and you can create turrets that will kill your enemies. Its also awesome because you can get in the mechs and walk around and smash people or shoot them.

Its not like anything youve played before. So dont judge download the BETA!

 

I like the game too, at first it wasn't so great, but once i got used to it, it's awesome.

what doesn't make sense is that you can't repair yourself with the repair tool. I get why they don't let you, just doesn't make sense to me.

 

I think its more fair that way, can you imagine campers? Lol, they will camp and then heal themself.

What is your favorite aspect of the games nood?

 

it's between the jumping/jet pack and the spawning.

I like that i am able to charge in one direction and then jump and fly over a wall/building and take someone out.

I also like the spawning because of campers, spawn down right behind them and surprise them.

 

Yes, the running is amazing. Lol im sure they can beat the guy from Crysis in a race. Also you are right when you run and jump you can like fly on a mountain. Its like Hulk meets Ironman meets flash

Yes, I remember this one time with campers there was a guy in the mech i kept spawning behind him and shooting him he killed me like 10 straight time lol. In order to take out those thing you gotta have like 3 people go in on them.

 

I just don't see it haha....

 

The beta is a lot of fun, and will quickly rekindle memories of playing Tribe until the late hours of the night.

What Sec-8 is not is a Halo-clone.

 

this game is actually not half bad. i have been playing for about 2 hours and it's pretty fun. i actually prefer this than COD4, since you don't die that easy, and the drop pod system pretty much gets rid of the campers.
did anyone participate in the close beta? i'm curious about some features they took out in the OB, like tanks and stuff

 

The trailer resembled nothing of mass effect/gears of war gameplay, but at very least it looked frantic and fast paced. Of course, I should probably try the beta so I know what I'm even talking about.

 

Mass Effect - Set in the future with spaceship.
Gears of War - Heavy Armor.

Both are just general resemblance...

Ryo, you are just like me, you would take this over call of Duty 4. Yes drop pod is amazing, i also like how there is a robotic girl that explains EVERYTHING to you.

I waited a little while for the beta and played it for a few hours.... It reminds me very much of tribes and a game called Gun Metal....the gameplay is pretty addictive although simple IMO... Its pretty fun going into overdrive mode against an enemy with lower health by then running them over haha.... and like the others have said, its no halo clone what so ever, much more intense although there are rechargable shields... def give it a go if you are thinking of trying this game, its pretty good for beta even

 

i'm not too sure about the lock-on mechanic, is it discharge recharge kinda thing? can you lock on a target that's runing? what if the target starts to run while being locked on?

 

i pretty sure it has to recharge after using it, you should be able to lock on to running targets, and stay locked even if they start running. I don't know if you can lock on/stay locked on to targets that jump into the overdrive run.

Sometime when i would jump it would l was no longer locked on, but if i used the jet pack it stayed locked on.

 

Yea it's a discharge and recharge thing. And yup it will lock on to anything no matter they're running or jumping, it's got a timer so it stops locking on when the timer ends. Although it would stop locking onto the target if it gets out of your sight.

Here I called down my first heavy armor suit...

Haha thats what it LOOKS like but it certainly is something unique. I didnt even get to play today because of homework(Phooey) Ill definitely jump on today(Friday)

 

I've very excited for it. Tribes mixed with Battlefield = awesome. There is nothing Halo-ish about Tribes, because Halo is Tribes-ish! Tribes came first!

 

It's like a dozen other FPS games.

 

Doesnt matter... Tribes is like the Chuck Norris of video games... "CHUCKMATE" haha

 

yeah, as soon as I heard the word Tribes get brought up, I think the first thing I have to do now when I get home from work is to check this out, I still miss tribes

Nice recommend red, love it, I played a small 4v4 game and still had a blast, got owned by a heavy armor a few times though, but pretty fun, had some fun moments defending a control point, deploying deployable turrets and holding out, also fun to burn in and catch an enemy off guard although I've had that happen to me too ><, I find that I didn't really pay much attention to the objectives, I just kept trying to run in to try to capture the enemy's control point so I still have more of the game to experience, anyways my name on there's Poopiemasta, won't be on the rest of this weekend but will definitely try out some more next week

 

Spent most of a day giving the beta a try.

There's nothing original in it, that being said it is kinda fun.

 

There may be nothing original to Section 8 but CoD4 had nothing original about it either and that was great game. I am playing in the Section 8 open beta, and i must say this game is great. It feels new and refreshing and is just the type of game i was looking for.

If you like Crysis you will like this game. It is the perfect balance between fast paced and strategic gameplay. The graphics look amazing, not to mention once I switched over to Windows 7 the game runs perfectly smooth now. And everything feels just right. My ingame name is : IceySnipez[809] .

And this is one of the most anticipated games for me this year.

Armament Criticisms

Rockets are terribly underpowered, seemingly have little to no splash damage, and are fired too slow.

For example, a slow moving mech, ideally, should not be able to weave between rocket bombardments with little to no damage received, sans a quickness or anti-rocket (or deflective agent) upgrade. Yet, currently, firing a rocket in close proximity of a stationary mech does no perceivable damage, ergo, nullifying the effectiveness of using rockets against mechs from moderate distances. (This case of ineffective splash damage also exist with infrastructure.)

Thus far, I have not yet encountered a single fire-fight where the shotgun provides functional usage. Or for that matter, the knife.

If the machine gun is to be the weaker of the two rapid-fire weapons, can it at least have an innately faster reload time in comparison with its assault rifle cousin?

My favorite weapon so far is the assault rifle. It works great for both short and long range, and even better when you lock on.

One thing i don't like is people still just camp with the sniper on a rock or something. One game i was playing it was my team (7) and the other team (8), it was horrible because four players on our team just sat around trying to snipe, while the rest of us were getting cornered and attacked by 2-3 people at once.

 

What dries my raisin is the number of players who abandon areas immediately under attack to give chase a fleeing foot soldier.

On another note, how does this game compare to established sci-fi oriented games such as Battlefield 2142 and Quake Wars? (I'm looking for a heads-up before purchasing one of to the two aforementioned titles.)

 

Having played a good few hours on the game i find it terribly lacking. I know its still a beta an all but it just doesn't have that something that you look for in a game.

At the moment its got no teamplay element (perhaps in clans?), everyone is either a sniper or assualt gun/missle, given all the other guns are crap, the HA is worthless and not worth its 100 value price tag, mostly because it relys on melee combat against opponents that are all carrying missles and rip it to pieces. Lastly what the hell was they thinking building a aimbot into the game? i mean seriously whos bright idea was that....

I'd much rather spend me pennys on either ET:QW or Battlefield 2142 either that or download Tribes 2 for free and play that http://www.tribesnext.com/

 

meh. looks too much like halo for my taste. im pretty much against the whole space marine with the robot ninja suit by now.

 

I just decided to check Tribes 2, and man i dont think i can appreciate living day to day with those graphics LOL.

Hehe yer their not exactly top of the line, used to run it on a geforce 2 64mb without problems lol. The game itself is excellent though and if you are after a laugh jump into a construction server were you can basically make pretty much anything ya mind can think of.
