As an avid and longtime gamer I always have an affinity for games with touching stories and elements, something that inspires and moves me in some ways.
Heck, sometimes I even value a good story above game play and anything else, maybe it's just me though, but I want to know is there any sentimental moment in your gaming history that touches you so deeply that makes you cry?
I will start with a really old game that I played roughly 10 years ago, it's resident evil 2 on PS2.It's the moment when steve died in Claire's arms, I couldn't help but sobbed while watching the scene, I still remember it vividly although it was almost 10 years ago come to think of it.
Another much recent game is dragon age: origin, coupled with the music in the background... the moment touches me so I couldn't hold tears in my eyes, I have seen discussions in the dragon age community, a lot of DA fans were touched by this scene too.it's at Ostaga after you light the beacon, Loghain withdraws all of his forces, leaving king calian fighting alone, first it's Calian who dies fighting an ogre, then Duncan kills it by giving out all his strength, while he desperately watches the already lit beacon and overwhelming darkspawn approaching
Please share your moments!! And please add a spoiler tag for obvious reasons.

Ahh good thread! Mass effect 2
to begin withIn Mass effect 2 at the final battle, where you´re team mates that you have get to know dies one after one :O Really made me sadface!!
And another one i remember clearly Bioshock 2
In the endgame of Bioshock 2, where you rescue the little sister and escape that damn near made me cry D:
And another really good one was in Halo Reach
When you´re team mates die one by one and you are left alone to survive, and you know there is no chance but you still show those pesky aliens all you got! D: *Cries*
i keep reminding several of theseso ima keep posting the most significant ones. Gears of war 2
When the big guy with the shotgun kills himself, and when the other guy from you´re team finds his wife, that was sooo sad D: I cant remember the names because its a long time ago...
Those are 4 of the most significant gaming moments i can remember. -
The most sentimental moment for me happened in the grand old game (my very first game)
FF 7 death of Aerith (Cloud putting her in the water and her floating away-the music, and the way it was done WOW!!) I teared up a little. -
One that stands out for me is Snake in MGS4 going through the microwave room, the music and the tenseness of it and you controlling him as he is pushing through whilst being fried really stands out in my mind.
Fantastic game. -
There is already a thread buried somewhere in the forum about this but it's quite hold.
Anyways, here goes:
Homeworld
When you go back to see your homeworld burning and your people pretty much extinct (aside from roughly 500 000 survivors), the music playing in the background was awesome for that situation too
When you get to fight Estelle with Yuri, made me sad having to fight a character i liked and isn't even one of the bad guys
I'll add more as i remember them -
Mine's probably...
Early ending of Lunar 2 Eternal Blue. It's such a beautiful song that comes with it too. -
Mine is back when I was playing EQ (yes I am old shut up) and I completed my monk epic. I think I ended up buzzing all night from being so stoked about it. Months of questing and camping stuff finally completed!

World in Conflict
How Cpt. Bannon wanted to redeem his mistakes on the battlefield by stalling the Russians so that the U.S. can launch a tactical nuke before the Russians could find out they had nothing to stop them from taking over USA. Bannon sacrificed himself for the country -
Mine was in a lot of games, the most recent in memory was:
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core when Zack sacrifices himself to save Cloud. Epic Song at the end too. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I can't remember any one sentimental moment, but Zelda's lullaby sounded kinda sad. lol
-
Ending of Half Life 2 Episode 2
-
In COD MW2 when
Ghost and Roach gets betrayed by Shepard after assaulting Makarov's hideout -
Final Fantasy VI:
Locke and Rachel's story. My. God. You know, where Locke was a reckless young guy, out with his girlfriend adventuring in a cave, she saved him from falling but fell herself, and was left alive but in a persistent vegetative state for years? And he finally is able to revive her, but just for a moment, to see her eyes one last time before she dies? -
You can save your entire crew and not lose anybody.
For starters, everyone in your crew has to be loyal. That means you have to do all the recruitment and loyalty missions. It's tedious, but worth it in the end.
Once you have completed all the loyalty missions and made sure everyone is loyal, you have to get a few ship upgrades: the Thanix cannon (from Garrus), the reinforced armor (from Jacob) and the multicore shielding (from Tali). If you don't get at least these three upgrades, then one crew member will die for each missing upgrade.
If you want the minor crew members to survive (i.e. Kelly, the two engineers, Dr. Chakwas, the mess sergeant, all the unnamed crew around the ship, etc.), you have to enter the Omega 4 relay immediately after the Collectors abduct the Normandy's crew. If you do one to three missions after the abduction before entering the relay, then half of these crew members will die, including Kelly and one of the engineers. If you do more than three missions before entering, then everyone except Dr. Chakwas will die. Due to this, it's best to complete ALL recruitment and loyalty missions before activating the Reaper IFF, which triggers the Collector attack on the Normandy. Make sure you do Legion's loyalty mission as soon as possible after recruiting it, since you recruit it in the same mission you get the Reaper IFF.
The other main factor is who you choose for what role during the suicide mission. The first role you have to pick is the tech specialist to hack the door. The ideal choices for this are Tali, Legion and Kasumi (if you have her DLC installed). If you pick anyone else, they will die.
To lead the second fire team, choose either Garrus, Miranda or Jacob. Anyone else will result in another crew member dying.
To accompany you on this part of the mission, choose whoever you like; it does not matter.
After the next cut scene, you have to pick some more roles. For the biotic specialist to generate the shield, pick either Jack or Samara (or Morinth if you killed Samara during her loyalty mission). Miranda recommends herself, but do not pick her even if she's loyal. Using anyone else will get one of your squadmates killed by a Seeker swarm.
To lead the next fire team, once again, Garrus, Miranda or Jacob will work.
When you rescue the crew from the Collector pods, send Mordin to escort them back to the ship.
At this point, once again, you choose your own teammates to fight with you, and you can pick whoever you like.
After this segment, you get to pick two for your team again, and leave the rest to hold the line. It's best to take the two squadmates least suited to defense (this is a pre-determined value), or else they may die during the battle. The weakest defenders are Mordin, Tali, Jack and Kasumi (if you have that DLC). If you sent Mordin to escort the crew, then take Jack and Tali with you. Everyone else should survive the fight if they are loyal.
From this point on, it's just you and your two teammates to fight the Human-Reaper, no more decisions to make. If you've followed these guidelines and all your crew members are loyal, then nobody should die. Here's the list I personally chose, and all of them survived:
Tech specialist: Legion
Fire team leader: Garrus
Biotic specialist: Jack
Next fire team leader: Miranda
Crew escort back to ship: Mordin
Took with me on final battle: Jack and Tali -
The ending of HL2: Episode Two is indeed touching.
The destiny of Eli and hearing Alyx sobbing over her father like that.... Valve really knows how to do some great storytelling... -
When I got my first ever kill on my first ever Call of Duty Game: CoD: MW in Multiplayer. :3
-
Also in FF8 I learned how to talk to women when Squall told Quitsis to talk to a wall
The whole experience playing Legend of the Dragoon and Lunar: Silver Star Story. They just don't make'm how they used to. -
I have two moments with the Final Fantasy series:
Final Fantasy VI (or III in the US):
3 moments: When Terra defends the orphans around mi-game, it really hit a cord within me. The ending: Shadow dies, Terra sacrifices to save the others.
Final Fantasy VII:
When Aerith (Aeris) dies.
Those two are the strongest, not that I was in a sea of tears, but really touched me. -

But on my first playthrough i just played through it without giving it much though... But having some of them die made it so much more sad! and epic!

Another is the Castlevania 4 ending. Not back then, but now. The background music + scenes from the game. Brings me back too many memories from my childhood. Even listening to that music touchs me (yes, I got almost all castlevania game soundtrack). I love Castlevania series, but I've played onle the NES, SNES, GENESIS and (sadly) N64 versions. Well, the one from the Wii too, but that is NOT castlevania IMO.
You can see what I mean at the end of this video, starting at about 7:50 (I'm a fan of James BTW). And with the Jame's narrative is more sensitive too. -
I remember in Max payne 1....
At the begenning when you find your baby and your wife dead in your bedroom. -
My favorite moments in gaming were downloading sub 1 megabyte quake 1 patches to play with my friends after school. Browsing cdrom.com, picking something out, and watching the file slowly get pulled down over my 56k modem.

Medal of Honor 2010
when the guy dies at the end after trying so hard to save him. very touching. great SP on that game, although WAY too short. -
Final Fantasy III (SNES) and Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Terra, Locke, Shadow, Marle, Kefka, Sabin, etc
I felt what the characters felt. Very emotional and so moving/captivating that although these experiences are from 10 years ago, I still think about these two experiences quite frequently.
I would even go as far as saying that both games have altered my life in some way. -
I'm thirty years old.. however.. world of warcraft is a game i've been playing for the last 6 years (going on 7 soon). The very first time we met up with illidan at the top of black temple to whoop his . Everything from the beginning of the fight afterwards for me is a solid memory i'll never forget... i miss those bc days.

There can be only one !
After fighting, talking and sexing your way through a post apocalyptic world and bringing back the water chip, needed to ensure the survival of your vault-mates, the Over-seer informs you that because of your now tainted personality that you can no longer be welcomed into the Vault you just saved.........game ends with you walking off into the sunset !
If you don't know this one............your not a pc-gamer ! -
yup, i remember this game outfall, good game........ -
Its all about FF7 and Aerith tbh, nothing else comes close
although theres a few bits in Uncharted 3 that have got the emotion engine running again (excuse the Playstation pun, crap i know ;-) )
heavy rain as well, few parts of that pull at the strings
all my experiences have been Playstation based though, not PC! -
Pretty much the entirety of Crysis 2. I know there are some haters on here, but I think it was the most epic single player campaign I have ever played.
Oh, also DX:HR. The original DX was one of my favorite games of all time. IWar was a massive disappointment. Human Revolution really brought me back and swept me up in the awesome experience. The art direction, the music, everything. -
I dont care what people say about the gameplay (which I loved alot) of this game but I LOVED the storyline of FF-13 to a point where I felt that void when it was over, ya know?
I dont wanna ruin it but the ending was something that made me hold back some tears D:
so happy for 13-2 ^_^ -
sheesh, where to start?
when meryl dies in MGS
When Mona Sax gets shot by Vlad in Max Payne 2
When I let Malik die in the plane crash in DX3
HL2 EP2 ending of course
Mafia 1 ending cinematic where Johnny Angelo gets shot -

Only 2 come to mind
Oblivion
The reward of the Thieves guild quest, I wasn't expecting to take over as the Grey Fox. Awesome moment
KotoR
When you find out you're Revan. Probably my number 1 awesomesauce moment -
I can't remember much, but the only thing I remember that gets me crying is when playing MoH:AA when Major Jack Grillo being sniped as he opening the gate to submarine gate.
But the thing that gets me all sentimental is when I hearing OST or seeing walkthrough on YouTube on some of the old epic games that I love the most; such as Gran Turismo 2 Japanese OST (best music for driving IMO, especially the opening intro song, and I don't mean Cardigans - My Favorite game but Moon Over the Castle), Brave Fencer Musashi gameplay and OST (Tsuyoshi Sekito makes the music score, the one who did on may other major title such as MGS2 and some arrangements on FF series and its movies) and also Metal Gear Solid on PSX. Why there aren't any games like these anymore? -
-
When Darth Vader says
I AM YOUR FATHER, LUK! -
I was very emotionally attached to the characters in:
- Chrono Trigger (SNES)
- Final Fantasy III (SNES) ...(think it's VI for PS1/2)
I teared up many, many times throughout both stories. This was years ago mind you, but no other games have ever had such an effect on me. Both stories are true masterpieces and so inspiring, that I still think about these memorable games on an almost-daily basis -
HL series overall is just godly.
Sentimental moment in your gaming history?
