So I bought FEAR a couple weeks ago and installed it onto my computer. A problem arose that kept me from enjoying the horrifying nature of the game. When ever I play the game for more than 5 min, my framerates go to hell. I can play the game at max settings for those first couple minutes with great framerates but after that the frames per seconds just become so low that the game loses appeal. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I just purchased my laptop a couple weeks back.

Check your temperatures.. Might be overheating & downclocking

Sounds like your video card is overheating. Use HWMonitor to watch the temperature of your card when you are playing the game.

You might want to try lowering your resolution for this game and if those temps are during gaming they seem pretty normal.

Just out of curiosity, are you using an external USB keyboard or mouse?

Certain Logitech products cause massive framerate drops in FEAR like you describe. That's one of the reasons I got rid of my G11.

I may sound like a broke record but make sure your power settings are on "balance" or "High Performance" and not on "power saver".

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I had that problem with my Logitech VX Revolution mouse, but solved it by going into Device Manager and disabling the two 'HID-Compliant Device' entries (under 'Human Interface Devices'). There are some others similarly named, so make sure you only disable the ones with exactly that name.

I can still use the mouse in the game (only uses basic functions of the mouse) and then just re-enable them after playing to get the extra features back. I made a shortcut to Device Manager in the Quick Launch Toolbar to make it easier to access.

I found the solution here on the Sierra Community Forums.

the temps look normal, why not use riva tuner to map the temps and the clocks, it does sound the card is downclocking

Those are the temps right after I have been gaming.

My laptop is on high performance.

I do have a Logitech mouse and I'll try your solution Steven.

Can anyone point me to helpful guide that will show me how to use rivatuner? I have it but I have no idea how to use it.

Wait, I have a Logitech V450 laser cordless mouse. Is this mouse making my framerates drop?
