Hi i own a Toshiba P100 with a Geforce 7600.. Just recently i was sitting using my laptop to browse the internet and i suddently started to notice that the base was getting VERY HOT and the spot where that Grapics card sits. I thought this strange as this laptop NEVER overheats, especially when not gaming!.. And i then thought to myslef that i definately never heard the Gpu fan activate for the whole hour i was using the laptop!..(It normally just activates in short bursts which are very noticable)..
(The Gpu fan vent sits on the right side of the laptop, while the Cpu fan sits at the rear..and this was blowing out cold air)
So i went into the temp monitor in Riva Tuner and i saw that the Gpu core temp was reading 76 degrees!. This was very strange as i have never seen the temp go above 58-62 degrees even after just closing a game!..
So then to test if it would come on, i quickly opened a game and waited for the fan to kick in as it always would.. and it didnt!..
Getting worried i turned on computer off in the hope that on restart, the fan would kick in... AND it did.. The Fan went to full power and i watched the temp quickly go from the 70's down to 51 degrees where it stayed.. Phew!..
What i want to ask is, has anyone else here expreienced such an issue, as it was clearly software/driver related...and i think it has happened before when i have put the laptop into hibernation/standby mode.. It is like the Fan never comes back to life when returning from hibernation/standby ..until i do a complete shut down and restart..
Please help to calm my worries fellas....

Umm, 76 degrees celsius is not really bad for the GPU.
Make sure the vents werent blocked. -
The temperature wasnt the problem. The problem was that the Fan wouldnt turn on for over an hour..and i had to restart the laptop to activate the fan!

I have had a similar problem before . . occasionally the fan won't kick on when I turn on my Sager and I have to do a restart to get it working again.
You could look for a BIOS update for your notebook and perhaps that will fix the issue. -

I think you blocked the fan with your legs. If it is a big issue that continues, contact Toshiba.
