I bought a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo X laptop last november and it has been very good. Some days ago I noticed a problem when gaming. Odd colored dots appear on textures and there are also other graphic problems in many different games (Half-Life 2, Splinter Cell, SWAT4, but not in Scarface, Hitman Blood Money and some other games). In Tomb Raider Legend
the problem appears if I enable "next-gen" graphics option.

I don't think this is an overheating issue (max GPU temperature when gaming 71C) and the GPU isn't overclocked. I tried to disable the combined writing option, but it didn't help. What can be done? Any help is appreciated.

    My specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz
    Geforce Go7600 256Mb
    1024Mb DDR2 RAM
    Windows XP MCE

    Have you overclocked it before?
    What drivers do you have?
Did it happen in all these games back in November?

No. I haven't overclocked it before and the problem appeared for the first time a week ago. My drivers are from LaptopVideo2Go version 92.91

Can you run a scan for artifacts?
    Use the program 'Ati tool'

I would revert back to original drivers, or the latest ones of the Fujitsu Siemens website, and see if they make any difference. Also, you should try and install the latest pacthed and updates for all of the games. Hope this helps.

The Artifact scan with atitool reported no errors. Should I install the 84.71 drivers (from fujitsu-siemens website)?

Yeah, I would retrograde the driver and see if it was the culprit first.

Yes, install those drivers and see if there is any difference in the artifacting, or if they dissapear completely. It seems as if it is a software program, as the other games you have mentioned, seem to be working fine with no artifacting.

Switching back to old drivers didn't help at all. What else could be done?

I had a similar problem before. What I did, I downdated my drivers a bit, and reinstalled the game. I can't explain why but it actually worked.

Even reinstalling the games didn't work. Should I try to format my hard drive and reinstall windows?

Oh. I'm not so sure about that. Better consult the ones with the deeper knowledge. Just wait. They'll manage to come through this thread and I'm sure they'll have something more useful to say about that matter. Anyway, have you tried newer patches for the game? Updates?

All games are patched. I tried to underclock the GPU below the stock clock rate, but without success.

Any suggestions? The following games run well without any artifacts: No One Lives Forever 1&2, GTA San Andreas, Hitman Blood Money, Scarface, Tomb Raider Legend (without next-gen graphics option), Knights of the old republic 1&2 and Vampire: The Masquerade.

Somethings borked, did you uninstall your old drivers before installing the new ones? If not you should, and make a habit of doing so everytime you update, I also like to run driver clearner pro as an added precaution. Only other suggestion would be a call to tech support.
