Anno 1404 is much better in my opinion, I uninstalled Settlers after 1 sitting.

Also, Settlers 7 has the Ubisoft DRM if I recall correctly

I read the gamespot review, it was generally favourable.

The biggest obstacle is the draconian DRM that is in place.

Settlers 6 is not much different than 7, you should get 6.

No one's gonna convince you to get it if you're already getting Anno 1404. Anno's better, so don't bother with Settlers 7 until you get bored of Anno 1404.

... sigh. Bashing Ubisoft's DRM is getting pretty old. Is it a little bit much? Yeah. Is it going to affect most people, for any significant period of time? Doubt it. As long as your Internet connection is stable, you shouldn't have any major problems with playing it.

Anyways - I have both of these games (Settlers 7 and Anno 1404), and if you like one you'll probably like the other. Anno 1404 is definitely a little bit deeper, but that doesn't necessarily detract from Settlers 7's worth. Enjoy it for what it is - a town-building strategy game that doesn't require 40 hours of study to play the game.

It's the principle of it - we refuse to buy something that's going to constantly assume we are pirates. Why would anyone want to pay money to be falsely accused?

Also didn't one of their PR people, apparently operating under the assumption that it was "uncrackable," promise to remove the constant connection requirement if someone cracked the DRM? It's been cracked for months now, and they seem to have gone back on their word.

I would normally advocate buying the game and then cracking the DRM, but I can't in this case because it would still involve them getting money and another sale to add to their figure of "people don't care about it so we can do it again."

Ok, here some other fresh opinion....

One good thing I like about this online system is that I can install it on my desktop at home and also on my laptops I own. When I'm not at home behind my desktop I can start a saved game on my laptop and start from where I ended. Ok, only if you have an Internet connection at that moment, but I'm never without.

What I hate about this game it's the poor engine on what it's running. It doesn't support SLI or CF. So at home with my single HD5870 GPU it's running like a charm 57FPS, but with my M1730 with 2x 8800M GTX's in SLI I get a poor 20FPS.

its pretty easy to get around the drm. What companies need to do is provide valuable online communities and DLC that are only accessible with legit copies. Thats the best form of drm and the only form that will have any success. battle.net is the reason i wont pirate sc2. It gives me a valuable incentive to purchase the game so I will. If a game doesnt offer this i'll just torrent it and be done.

Yet because of ridiculous and overblown laws like the DMCA, that's "technically" illegal even if you own it...
