Yes, the guys who bring us 3DMark/PCMark . . . they're producing a DirectX 10 shooter that's coming out soon:
    http://www.shatteredhorizon.com/

I'm really looking forward to this, mainly because I like playing games from new developers. Also, it's a PC exclusive so we aren't getting a game that was developed on a console :)rolleyes :):
The minimum specs are nasty - 8800GT required, GTX 260 or HD 4870 recommended:
    http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20091022005669/en
Also it's Vista/7 only, XP is not supported since it is DirectX 10. I hope the game supports CrossFireX . . . otherwise not even my desktop will play it very well.

    Check out a trailer:

That does look cool though. The trailer said "Coming to Earth 2009". So does this mean we can expect it this year still? At least my desktop meets the recommended requirements (well, except they say quad, I have a dual core).

    Because it's sponsored by nVidia?

Pretty cool stuff. This is why I bought my M17x, for graphically taxing games.

I searched up 3dmark on google and got some sick images. If they have that in this game I'm so down.

edit: checked out their other trailer on their website. Even cooler. Has a nice story that could resemble Armageddon or maybe Asteroids :D

That some seriously bad animation. If they can't get the trailer to look good, god knows how bad the game is going to suck.

They are certainly cutting out a large pc gamer market also by saying 8800 GT as a minimum too. Personally I love FPS games and I have just a mid-range GPU, so far I can enjoy any game including crysis with enough eye candy and performance. We will see how well this game fares.

I was in the BETA and was severely unimpressed, the idea of the zero gravity battle was cool, but combat was akward, and servers were plagued with connection problems

First thing to know about Shattered Horizon is that it doesn't work on Windows XP since it's a DX10 title so you'll need to have either Windows Vista or 7 installed on your PC. As for the hardware required, the minimum is: a Core 2 Duo E6600 or Athlon X2 5600+, 2GB of RAM, a GeForce 8800 GT or Radeon HD 3870 (at least 256MB of VRAM), and 1.5GB of storage space.

How about the steam order thing where if yu buy 4 copies you basicly get one free? I will find the post and edit what I am talking about.. but it looks great.. I would play.. But I like shooting stuff in the house.. instead of having to drive to the range.. I like the upside down space walk with the other guy walking right side up.. while clearing the cat walks.. that was NICE! Thanks for the Graet info..

The specs.. which may be important to some people for a quick read.. but the game looks fantastic.. graphics wise.

If your familiar with steams gift system if you have more than one copy of a game you can transfer (give) your extra copies to anybody you like. I do not have 4 real life friends to buy into this with me all my friends are broke or do not play PC games, so I am reaching out to the forum community to do this with.

I like the idea of saving some money like anyone else.. but the really cool thing about the Steam thing here at NBR would be that building a team would be so much easier.. call it a NBR gaming team(s) for your / my favorite games.. buy the game.. save some money and have a team kind of by default.. that is FANTASTIC! all credit once again to ViciousXUSMC for thrusting it into the mainstream here..

I hope this helps us all a little..

I wasn't blown away by the graphics, kinda reminded me of a demo from 3dmark... But something about it drew me in. I am really looking forward to it, unfortunately my Dell XPS M1730 has windows XP on it. Plus I don't think my 8800M SLI would go too well either hehe.

It is a big call developing the game in DX10 only, they will cut off alot of PC gamers out there. Still, kudos to them for trying to move things forward a little.

I was hoping Crysis would start a "who can create the best-looking game for PC" war amongst developers after it came out in 2007 but so far nothing has touched it - Shattered Horizon might do it. Graphics have not really advanced anywhere since the introduction of the Xbox 360/PS3 since the graphics we see now are as good as the consoles can handle. It's very annoying to be held back by them.

I wonder if we can still get in on the beta for this?

Beta is pretty much over. Only those that contributed significantly are allowed to play I believe. It was pretty fun to play though even if I only got around 24 fps on all settings on low. Kinda like a dream come true for anyone who's read Ender's Game.

It's an I, X32I: Redemption, not X321 (basically the name comes from a lot of scientists giving new discoveries really basic names...aka codename X32I)

Haha thats a mod mate, the initial ground based project was a test project/mod by the team lead (Dave Baron), a year or two back, not an official product from Crytek. We got the mod back up and running early this year with a COMPLETELY new direction. I'm part of the team making that; Vertical Horizons :D

Im sure Dave will be happy to know that the work is gaining interest.

    Checkout:
    www.x32i.org

That's our official website, the moddb entry is sort of a side site.

All the ships etc are being custom designed and drawn for the game, we are not trying to make a carbon copy of something else.

Unfortunately I've been mostly out of touch since my machine went down a few months ago, BUT Im not teasing you there, if you check the teaser trailer my name's on it ;)

Wow. You've got to say, though, you'd wish the demos Futuremark use in their benchmarks became games. But hey, I'm not surprised with those skyrocket requirements, since after all they strive for brute power!

Hahaha they might as well have gone ahead and even put a 3DMark06 Score requirement on the game's system requirements!

Really not a bad idea. If we could get a highly GPU dependent benchmark that was the average of multiple and varied tasks on the GPU it would make things so much easier than worry about what card has what smount of shaders and what the core clock is, what drivers were used, etc..

GPU Minimum requirements : xxxx on benchmark X
GPU Recommended requirements : xxxx on benchmark X

    Done and done!

    :sigh:, one can dream.

i was in the closed beta from day 1 and like most new games there was lots of bugs which is understandable. the main one was connection to server lost after 10 seconds and mainly affecting bt broadband in the uk but also a few others networks worldwide.
this took over a week to rectify and by then a lot of people had given up.
once it did work for me i think for a space game the graphics were quite good but after a few games it sadly got a little boring.
all i can say is good luck to futurmark with this venture.

Thanks for the insight! I was in the eve online beta and there were so many problems and it was so amazingly boring people thought the game was dead in the water before being released. Obviously that's not the case. I'll wait for the actual release and see where we are then! I hope it's a great debut for them.

FYI this is coming out next Wednesday, it's on Steam now for the pre-order price of $18 (regular price $20).

Futuremark has announced that the game will have free DLC content afterward and whoever pre-orders gets to try the DLC before it is widely released.

Who else bought this? The pre-order is still going on for $18.

    29 hours before release. :D

I have my fingers crossed that the game will support CrossFireX. If not, I may not be able to play it . . . my desktop has dual HD 4670s which equate to a single 4850 more or less in CrossFireX mode. A single HD 4670 by itself however is only about 2/3 as powerful as the required GeForce 8800GT. :-\

If it's any help, I played the beta on my 8600M with all settings on low at 1024x768 and got 15 to 24 fps. Even with optimizations and the possibility of additional graphics settings added since beta I doubt I could get better fps. You could probably play well even if it's at lower that native res and medium settings.

Indeed. I started the pre-install or whatever it's called on Steam, hopefully I'll be able to look at it tonight! Assuming, of course that it runs at more than 2 fps. :D

Ick. Don't waste your money. Kinda fun, but definitely nothing new. Everyone has same weapons and same class. I don't understand the system requirements, it really isn't any better than other games I've seen. Lots of exploits too. A few opponents get to your end and basically spawn kills everyone with little chance to come back. No auto balance of teams, the few levels I did play, it was like 11 to 7 or 9 to 6, so you lose to begin with.

No offense wingnut, but I don't think it's quite fair of you to base your opinion on a single hour of playing the game.

That's like playing the first level of Zelda, and saying "you just walk around and hit things with your sword and pick up coins."

Well, considering it's a multiplayer only game, and played three different levels which felt the same, I dunno. Since I spent the coin, I'll be sure to play it some more and give it a shot, but so far it's so-so. Definitely no need for the steep system requirements.

I tried the BETA and hold the same beliefs/complaints as htwingnut. The game really is not that revolutionary or amazing. It's rather repetitive and boring and it seems like there really is no point to it, the gameplay is also really simple.
