Anyone have any promo codes or anything to play this? I want to check it out but I am hesitant because it has steep hardware requirements... Looks really neat. I like the space concept for FPS. I dont know if it has the "fun" factor?

Man.. so many games.. so little time.

    Thanks everyone,

    Steven X

It's a one trick pony. It's fun for a few hours but then it gets old real quick. I like the game mechanics in 3D space, but it lacks in gameplay and variety. It's definitely worth a play for $10 max. I ended up playing maybe 10-12 hours and got it for $15 on pre-order.

Played it for awhile, it's pretty good, but the amount of people playing dwindled pretty fast (I bought it on the big holiday Steam sale for $5). Also part of the problem with the game is the rather steep requirements.

There is new DLC that is free, so that might stir up some interest again. The DLC is also free you can read about it here:

Shattered Horizon Gets Free DLC, Full Game for $14.99

Think I might load this back up again actually. lol

EDIT: Seems i dont have a single invite code for anything i own (which is weird) ill let you know if i get one in the future

Ryo and Everyone.. thanks! I will keep my eyes open for another sale since I missed the last one. I utilize W7 on my m11x.

i was in the closed and open beta and as mentioned above sadly its a one trick pony. whole concept of the game looked great on paper but sadly it doesnt last.
steam would be the best place so keep an eye out for the next sale.

I bought Shattered Horizon when it was on sale for ~£10 the other day.

It runs really, really bad. I've even heard people on their forums with the latest hardware complaining about the performance problems.
As for the gameplay, it's fairly meh. It's fun spinning about in space, albeit rather slowly. For me, it can't hold a candle to TF2's fun gameplay.

    IMO, I'd forget about it.

EDIT: I'll send you a guest pass if you like, so you can make your own judgement :) Just post your Steam-name.

    The minimum req. is a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo + 8800 GT.

It won't even run on an M11x.

@SHADOWS1990 - stevenxowens792 Thanks so much!!! Really appreciate it.

Kevin - google m11x and shattered horizon. There is a video of the notebook running it. I just cant tell from the vid if it is 20fps or 30fps at low settings.

It looks kinda neat but again I dont know if it's a pick up for an hour type of game then never play it again. Or a COD MW 2 or BFBC2 game that you play for months or more.

    BW,

    StevenX

the reason i think this game runs terribly is because i think its very cpu dependent. it runs better on my laptop then it does my desktop and that has a gtx 260 but the cpu is an e6600. it runs at around 40fps on my laptop but only around 30 on the desktop.

It's more graphics dependent than anything. It gives any video card a hard workout, even my desktop Radeon 5850.

I find it hard to believe, that the 22% difference in CPU speed matters more than the 200% plus difference in GPU power.

KevinJack - the other issue I have is that I dont know what optimizations that person did or didn't do. If you frequent my posts, you know that I have the m11x about as streamlined as you can get. I have most startup items cut via msconfig. I then run gamebooster and then bills process manager. Then I oc the video card by 10-12 percent. The cpu is standard oc. In some circumstances I will even close explorer.exe and run the game from the task manager. Chances are if I can't get it to run on the m11x, it probably can't. Truthfully I would like to squeeze a few hunderd more mghz out of the ULV CPU but I doubt it is going to happen without bios mod or chip mod and I wont do a chip mod. If I get a chance I will install it and see how it goes... Best wishes StevenX

@Shadows 1990, I accepted friend advice and at home now. I dont see an invite or game in the guest pass area. If possible do you mind resending it?

    Thanks again,

I gave it a try on my M11x. It was 12-15 fps for the most part. Playable, but not enjoyable by any means. I even ran at 1280x720 instead of 1366x768, so a small % less screen pixels to push, and all lowest details.

@shadows1990 - Thanks so much! Loaded it up and tried it out. It is like htwingnut says. The m11x just doesnt have enough cpu for the game. At lowest settings on 1280x720 it wasnt bad with just a few people. 20-30fps easy. When I played on a server with 30 players, it tanked. 12fps..sometimes 20fps but mostly under 20. Especially in large fire fights. I have the feeling this might be a fun game with the right machine. No doubt about it. I may go ahead and buy a 3dmark vantage bench to support futuremark though. Again i really appreciate it...

    Best Wishes,

    StevenX

I recommend it. I just bought both 3DMark/PCMark Vantage bundle and 3DMark06 bundle last week as they were on sale ($25 for all). I've used the limited free versions for years and figured it was time to support the cause.

Im wondering the exact same thing. needless to say i was pretty pissed that it ran that bad when i bought the gtx 260

i really dont understand why it runs that bad though i mean the e6600 isnt even at stock clocks i have the fsb at 1600 matching the rams 800 to a 1 to 1 ratio. i did have to bring the cpu multiplier down by one (x8) to ramain stable but thats still at 3.2 ghz ( i doubt the cpu cache would make this much of a difference?) but after a few cpu tests (prime 95, everest, etc.) the laptop cpu always get better scores/lower times.

    Pretty miserably to be honest.
I know the 9800M GTS isn't the latest and greatest, but it can handle most new games fairly decently (as you can see, I play A LOT of Just Cause 2 :p).
I'm really disappointed with the results; I get 30-40 with a few players (on low-medium), and have to drop it to low when there is more than 10 people playing, and even then I only get around 20FPS.
Looking at their section on the Steam forums, it's clear that even the beefier desktop GPUs (260, 280) are having problems :(

Shortly after the Firepower update, they were experiencing a performance bug, but they're supposedly working on it. Before the patch, on medium-low settings the 260/9800 GTX should be able to handle 30-60
