Ok I am getting my new laptop in a couple weeks, and I want to try out its power with some games. My favorite genres are shooter, rpg and strategy (rts) type games.
Shooters I have enjoyed...
1) Halo
2) Quake
3) RainbowSix
RPGs I have enjoyed...
1) Elders Scrolls (Morrowind more than Oblivion, but TES 4 was pretty good)
2) Neverwinter Nights
3) World of Warcraft
RTSs I have enjoyed...
1) Age of Empires 2
2) Age of Mythology
3) Battle for Middle Earth 2
So far from what I have seen, I am most interested in MW3, Skyrim and DOTA 2 when it comes out. Do you guys have any other suggestions?
-
I would recommend The Witcher 2 for an RPG.

1. Not an FPS gamer but if I was I would play BF3
2. Skyrim, The Witcher 2 <----This game will push your machine to the limit
3. Civ5 is fun -

I'm in the same boat you are (waiting for my brand new Sager).
I have three games queued up for it.
1. Battlefield 3 - for my multiplayer and fast-paced gaming needs
2. Skyrim - well, 'nuff said
3. Witcher 2 - have heard lots of positive things about it
By the time I've through with those RPGs, I'm sure Mass Effect 3 will be out for me to switch to. I'll also keep an eye on SWTOR too, though I'll let it slide by for now. -

They.
Are.
That.
Good. -
Yea I have heard Witcher 2 is good, but I only want one of each to be honest. I dont have time for 2 RPGs lol.

If you liked TES 3 and 4, go get Skyrim. (If I were you, will get that, but on christmas sales xD)
Or, if you have no hurry and want to get the most out of your laptop, get Witcher 2, on some sale, because is a bit older and cheaper... and by the time you finish it, get Skyrim.
About RTS, I don't know. I like C&C games, but lately I go most on TD games: Anomaly, Defense Grid, revenge of the titans, Orcs must die...
FPS: uff... if you like multiplayer, go with BF3. Else, you got Metro 2033, Crysis 1 & 2...
Edit: If you can change shooter to "action", go and get Batman Arkham City. Arkham Asylum was a masterpiece IMO -
Shooter: Bullet Storm, one of the most entertaining FPS games I've played in awhile. I think it's pretty cheap now too.
Also if you're interested in a 3rd person shooter (with 1st person shooter zoom) I'd check out Warhammer: Space Marine. This game was probably the most fun I've had in a long time. I honestly enjoyed this more than Skyrim seeing as I beat it in about a week and pushed Skyrim to the side while playing it (still haven't beaten Skyrim). -
Test your new rig GPU/CPU out with (if you haven't played them):
Crysis
Metro 2033
Fallout 3
COD: World at war 4
GTA 4
World in conflict -
What are your thought on StarCraft 2? I have never tried it.
-
Bulletstorm is a really good suggestion. Quick, arcady-like fun with really refined shooting mechanics. It has a pretty decent story as well but it is a little short. I had heaps of fun with it!

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
SC2 is a great game, although I dont play it anymore, actually I dont play anything more at all
try sins of a solar empire
the total war series (there is a great bundle for 50 you can get the entire collection minus shogun2 and the originals (mtw e stw)
neverwinter nights 1 and 2, baldurs gate
ruse
dragon age 1 and 2
star wars republic commando
if you are into adventure games all from lucas arts are great -
SC2 is a must imo. The core gameplay is a lot of fun and pretty damn intense. Singleplayer will last you a while, with plenty of achievements and a fairly engrossing story.
But what will make it last is the multiplayer and the custom games scene. I have spent hundreds of hours playing custom games, and there are new ones every single day. People have been accomplishing some INCREDIBLE things with the sc2 universe editor. That alone will give this game some ridiculous staying power. Not to mention the esports scene as well
PS: Gonna have to agree with Skyrim as well. This game will soak up as much time as you are willing to put into it. I can see myself playing it for 200 hours without even getting into user made content. It's engrossing and FUN. -
witcher 2. Yes over skyrim. Ive played both and witcher 2 is just a can't miss rpg.
-
Oh god, you guys have really given me some tough choices here
-
Since you suggested DOTA2, might i suggest league of legends, its not going to push your rig any but will give you a taste of what DOTA2 is going to be for free.
-
For FPS, I'd go with Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3, depending on your style of play. BF3 is larger-scale with vehicles and slightly more thought required for tactics, MW3 is smaller, more fast-paced.
I highly recommend Skyrim. I'm having an absolutely amazing time with it. -
Yea, to be honest I'm leaning towards Skyrim too. I would love to try Witcher 2, but I don't have the time or money for 2 RPGs at the moment. And I really enjoyed Elder Scrolls 3 and 4. Especially Morrowind. I spent SO much time playing that game holy crap lol. Even though the graphics weren't the best, there was definitely something special about that storyline and the world in that game. I absolutely was HOOKED. So hooked I would forget to eat some times (WoW style) while i was playing it hahaha. I enjoyed Oblivion too. But I really would say that I'm a bigger fan of Morrowind than Oblivion. I guess I'll have to wait and see where Skyrim lands in the series

Yea. One of my buddies who is also a big elder scrollls fan bought it recently. I basically havent talked to him ever since hahaha. He vanished from the face of the earth.

Oh god dude, you just gave me 100% confirmation that you are a redditor. Nice meme!
-
Baka believes that Heroes of Newerth is a better representation of Dota2 than League of Legends ._.
Also free. -
hey you guys are redditors too?!
-
I'm not actually a redditor. I don't even have a Reddit account. But I love memes.

Total War Shogun 2 for great gameplay and plenty of eye candy. Some of the DLC on Steam is worth getting too as it changes the gameplay experience on the campaign map and even adds a separate campaign set in an earlier timeline.
The Blood pack released yesterday brings enough blood to raise the age rating and stress new PCs a little more than the vanilla version. -
By the way, if your a hockey fan, you would have liked this reddit post...
