I hate to make a different topic from the Oblivion one, but... Should I be worried about my video card?
I'm gonna change to an 8800 soon, but still....
At a resolution of 1680x1050, I got 20 fps in alot of places, and alot of times it dropped to 9 fps.
Now that I am up to 1920x1200, in those same areas I get... a constant 40 fps![]()
I'm perplexed as to why my machine would perform so differently because of a resolution change...
I'm also perplexed as to how I could get a constant 40 fps in oblivion of all things, with all the mods added, at 1920x1200...
What makes things even more interesting is that I'm now running a dual display.
I was expecting to not even be able to play Oblivion. I was expecting 5 fps.
instead I get 40....???
Anyone got an explanation, other then an act of God?

God bless.
EDIT -- Cool Avatar. -
LOL.
So no one has an explanation as to why this happened?
Should I even worry? It's not like your machine has games run 20 fps faster before it dies, it's more like the opposite
Should I even get an 8800 if it's gonna run this good at such a high resolution? -
I don't play Oblivion, but I know it's not the smoothest running game out there. Is there something that happens in-game when you experience your slowdowns? I've heard about grass and four-legged animals causing problems before.
-
Nope, just regular slowness when alot of stuff happens...
The really big areas are still about 17-30 fps, but some areas where I had tons of problems, the game now runs at 40 fps...
Like cities, the snowy one ran at like 20 fps... now it runs at 40
It seems to be acting like it should now...
And yet, I've gone to a higher resolution
It's more then that. On this new setup, I've gotten 10 fps increase in Quake 4...
Only two games I've played so far...
I honestly don't get it.
So why did my pc hate 1680x1050?
I'm not gonna be dumb and say that my pc is secretly trying to tell me it wants a 30" monitor, and it'll run 40 fps faster...
Could my windows be corrupt? When I first got the core 2 duo, I had bad ram, which caused a few things to corrupt, I've been wondering if my install this whole time is corrupt.
I never actually reinstalled windows :-\ -
Are you sure you are running with the exact same settings? Some other video setting might have changed when you switched resolution.
And which graphics card are you using at the moment? -
same settings.

Should I be worried?
