-
If you hurry, you can get a M1710 maxed out for $2750
check the F/S thread (Techaholic)
but yes, the M1710 is ownage -
I prefer the Sager 5760 over any Dell

I wouldnt buy a DTR notebook now. Wait until Santa Rosa platform (Q1 2007)... It will feature great things like DX10 support, Dual Core, 64-bit, new better WLAN etc. And maybe those notebooks will have nVidia 8800GTX or X2800XT?

Well look at current needs and buy from that need. The next month after You have bought yourself a great lappy You will realize its already old and outdated.
As with desktops technology is moving so fast that You can't rely on todays tech to be tomorrows. -

What kind of computer are you using now and what can't you do that you would like to do on it? There's a link in the FAQ which links to a seperate "when should I buy" FAQ that you can fill out to help us determinie whether or not you should get it now or later. Just our opinion, but still worth something nonetheless.

I need a new notebook plain and simple this R40 is dieing, going bye bye. I anit going to Lenovo and wasting another $200 or something to fix it up. I rather buy new notebook, the problem i'm facing is, I want to play games and I want to use this new notebook for at least another 5 years without a problem. I have never bought a laptop over $2,000 (My R40 at the time was still only about $1,800). I know knew stuff is coming out like Direct X 10, Unreal Tournament 2007, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty Stories and so on...
WHAT I DON't WANT is a $2700 notebook becoming less than $2,00 in the next year....
AND
Buying a T60 or whatever seems to me like a bit of waste (ya i know that sounds stupid but really those dells have more ports, I think and such and such)
Plus AMD AM2 coming out... I WANT A AMD GAMING NOTEBOOK BUT WHERE u find a AMD notebook UNDER 3 GRAND with a 7900 GTX 1 gb of ram, 80gb hd, wifi, bluetooth, AMD X2 4800 or AMD X2 4200 (New) In CANADA!?
BTW I am not spending $3,000 on a notebook and I'm also scared cuz of this quote,
"If you can afford it, always go with the better video card in a laptop. Since you can't upgrade down the road, you're stuck with whatever you have until you replace the whole system, so future proofing actually makes sense here. The X1400 is a faster clocked version of the X1300, and since neither are top-of-the-line cards, the faster one will definately play smoother. The extra RAM is important too..." In that line "you're stuck with whatever you have until you replace the whole system" freaks me out -

What has been said is correct - you can't upgrade the video card. The RAM/HDD can easily and generally without voiding the warranty.
Don't know the size you wanted, but a Go7900 isn't going to come in anything less than a 17". Check the Dell XPS M1710 as mentioned, that will come in under $3,000 CA. Perhaps the Sager NP5760 from Eurocom will as well.

If you can't wait that long then by all means go ahead... -
Geez... Vista takes forever and isn't DX 10 vista only or something like that...?? Eurocom people damn nust... WHo in the right freaken mind buys that??

You want something NOW that can run soemthing that will be made 4-5 years from now?
And you actually want a top fo the Line soemthing now to run these games that will be made 4-5 years from now.
MANY consumers that have been using laptops and most laptop aficionados would tell you to expect your laptop to be good for the next 2 yrs.
Some even goes as far as have a saying of "New every 2".
Let us get back down to Earth and be realistic in what we need and want.
My honest suggestion.
Build a Desktop instead for your gaming needs.
It will cost you alot less and you can easily upgrade it as newer technology is made.
BUT
If you are dead set on having a laptop, then suggest to go to the FAQ and answer the questionaires there. -
Thank you Kilim... Nice notebook you're buying. Ya your right in saying 2 years, my thinkpad is about 3 years old now. See problem with me buying a desktop is, I'm hardly home.
