Should I get Counter Strike Source?
Yes or no?
1.) Is the game worth the price?
2.) Does it have good graphics?
3.) Does it require big computer specs, such as Battlefield 2142, 2, etc.
I would like to have some feedback please on the game

Do you know anyone else who owns it? I've noticed that Valve has a thing where a CS:S owner can give a friend a "guest pass" to install and play it for a limited time.
Also, I think you get CS:S for free if you just register your copy of the Half-Life collection with Steam (and I think the half-life collection can be had for under $10 or something), so it certainly isn't a big expense. -

The graphics look better than the Condition Zero.
So I don't know, anyone here are owners of this game? Suggestions and feedback is welcome dearly. -
It's certainly a fun game, and there's about a million custom maps out for it. The graphics are fairly dated, but it still looks presentable. And HL2 is an amazing game too- since you can get both for $20 or $30, I think it's a great value. -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
I've been playing CSS for about 2 and a half years and so far I can only say it will most likely affect your grades in school. But this is only into an account on how 'addicted' you get. Some play for an hour and get bored. I, on the otherhand, can play for hours on DeathMatch, Zombie, sccocer-mod, and original map servers. Time will just pass by without you knowing it.
The great thing about CSS is that you don't need a powerful system. Hell, most players still have a P4/Athlon and a GF 6600. I like 'eye-candy'. The more fps, the better the gameplay. That is why I play at 1600x1200 with everything on FULL along with HDR (too bad I cannot run HDR + AA,).
Mike. -
Yes CS: S is pretty fun for awhile then it gets kind of old because I been playing CS since 1.4. But the Source version looks really nice plus they sell a pack where you can get Day of Defeat, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, and this for like 20 or so bucks, not too shabby...
-
If you instrested i got freind pass you more then welcome to it
it expires anyways -
I've been playing it for about 3 or 4 years, and I make maps, skins etc. In my opinion it's the best FPS out there, and mainly because of it's endless possibilities. There's hundreds of game modes that you can download, and you can skin anything in the game. Not to mention that you could always play a different map if you want. CS:S gets about 10 or so new maps every day by the community.
To me, the graphics are great! Physics are awsome and respond fast, and the graphics are always being updated. Some what recently we got HDR for CS:S, and the new maps are starting to push the game past it's oh so low requirements.
Watch out for hackers/cheaters though, there's alot of them out there, but most good servers with one or more admins will take care of that. -

@ azn- Thanks, but no thanks. I don't think I'll be needing that pass. My big question is...
Do I need to buy half life in order to play counter strike source
or can I just buy counter strike source from a retailer store, install it on my comp, and then play it? -
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
so do I need Half Life 2 or not to play Counter Strike Source?

Should I get Counter Strike Source?
Yes or no?
1.) Is the game worth the price?
DEFINATLY, you'll have great fun. This game is everlasting ^^
2.) Does it have good graphics?
Good enough for me, i personally like the graphics more then extremely realistic ones.
3.) Does it require big computer specs, such as Battlefield 2142, 2, etc.
I got a 1,6 ghz laptop with 512 mb ram and use CSS with great FPS.
I would like to have some feedback please on the game -

Get HL2 and it comes with CSS, but you can buy CSS sep.
-
you don't need hl2 to play CSS
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
Oh, thank God! I don't need to buy Half life 2.
No offense to some half life fans, but I don't like horror themed games. -
Oh, and HL2 is not a horror themed game, it's a FPS with a bunch of puzzle elements to it. It's theme is futuristic where aliens have taken over, and become the law, in a sort of way. It's worth it to just get HL2 though, because even if you don't like it, there's hundreds of mods that you can get for it, and alot of them are even third person, or completely different all together.
check out HL2MODS -
um last time i checked it was 29.99 at bestbuy.com for cs s with some pack and so was hl2 at bestbuy but it didnt say nething about counterstrike
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
well, I went to Bestbuy today, and I just bought Counter strike source by itself...So that goes against of what you say of buying HL2.
All I got from what I bought was included in the following
Counter Strike Source: Includes Half Life 2 Deathmatch & Day of Defeat Source -
ghost ive played it before u will not be disappointed, look for a decent room and what he meant is that u cannot buy the game that would cost 19.99 standalone but yea its good stuff i mite get it tomorrow if not c&c
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
I have 1 question. what do you mean by $20 standalone?
However, I REALLY DO RECOMMEND Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars. AS of what you said, you will not be disappointed.
It's really fun, and many things are destructible. -
you could also just create a steam account and purchase it that way if you don't feel like driving to the store. Also, once anyone has a steam account taht is when you can get the invite from a "friend" to try out CS:S

Yes.

They are last gen but still good.
3.) Does it require big computer specs, such as Battlefield 2142, 2, etc.
No, unless you turn the AA and AF high up. -
does anyone know when a new version of Counter Stike might come out?
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
And im not sure if there is a new counter strike coming up -
haha im just kidding with you. I'm glad you like it.
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
Well, kidding or not, I don't play it everyday. I only play it 30 mins every other day. And thank you, I really do enjoy it.

The game should carry a warning. Incredibly addictive.
The strange thing is, when in a rut, you continue to play it, even thought you are getting bored. I eventually weaned myself off it after hours and hours on it. Never touched it since.
Some really good communities out there. Online Assault is a friendly UK based group that I was part off for a while. -
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
Well, sorry to say, but I don't find this game addictive.

I want to clear up a couple of bits of misinformation in here:
1) The Half-Life 2 US Retail package does NOT include CS:S anymore! Nor does the Episode One package. They include HL2eathmatch only.
2) There IS a separate CS:S retail package, that also includes DoD:S and HL2eathmatch. It is typically $30, although just CS:S and HL2
eathmatch can be bought for $20 on Steam.
3) GeForce 6- and 7-series owners CAN use AA in combination with the game's implementation of HDR, as it is not "true" Shader Model 3 HDR, only a glorified SM2 bloom effect.
4) The game will run on a wide variety of systems, but be aware that performance will not be good at high detail unless you have a very powerful computer. Not just GPU, but CPU and RAM as well. And performance (at least on the DX9 rendering path) gets worse with each patch. -

i personally believe cs: source is one of the best online shooters and must be played for any fan of the genre. although i still prefer 1.6 (which i think you should pick up as well), cs: source is a much cleaner and prettier version of the original multiplayer fragfest, albeit with some really large hit boxes.
i suggest you go for the source premier pack, which you can pick up from steampowered.com. it comes with half-life 2 (the best single-player fps ever), hl2: deathmatch, half-life: source, hl: deathmatch source, cs: source, and dod: source, another amazing online fps.
you'll enjoy cs: source a lot if you're fan of round-based shooters. and if you are a respawn kind of player, dod is great too. not to mention there are plenty of spawn servers for cs.
but definitely get it. no question. the $60 is a steal for what you get and the hours of gaming that'll go into it. -
my m8s have all got CS:S so im getting it too- right now my PC is steampowered lol 2.5Ghz Celeron, 512MB RAM & 64MB Geforce4 graphics card- will it be able to play CS:S?
im buying a new laptop im probably going to get a Dell with a 2.2Ghz Centrino, 2GB RAM & a 256MB Go Geforce 8600M GT-so i know that should be able run it but im not so sure about my old rig from the stone age. -

Well, I didn't buy CSS. It turned out I bought a G15 logitech gaming keyboard... -

CS:S is full of kids and hackers. If you can put up with that, sure, get it.
-
there usually aren't that many hackers though. Just to let you know, this game has extremely high replay value so it's worth the price, especially bundled with HL2. The Gun Game Mod is amazing so make sure you try playing that.
-
I played the original CS, before the expansion and liked it, although for some reason I stuck with CS:S once it came out. Its one of those games that you can turn on (I use XFire to manage servers, I think its zippy) and play for a few minutes and then go do something else. Or if you want you can get really into the game. It can also be very social, especially if people have microphones and a friendly (or even unfriendly, I guess). Many mods have come out for the Source engine, CS:S is by far the most popular, and within it there are several other mods which can be incredibly fun.
The gun game mod, for example, upgrades your weapon as you advance in kill rank.
The zombie mod starts with a bunch of normal players until a few seconds have passed, then one player becomes a zombie and attempts to turn all of the other players into zombies. This is one of my favorite mods, for some reason barricading yourself into a small room with a sofa and a couple of buddies against a horde of zombies never gets old.
A super new Mod came out called Insurgence that is based on the modern Iraq War. It is MUCH more tactical than Counterstrike ever was, and (for me at least) the realism borders on simulation rather than game. There are no hitpoints or anything, its not nearly as twitch based as CS. But if you are interested in truly tactical gameplay using the Source engine, this is a great example.
Ok, done rambling. -
Day of defeat is popular too
-
CS: SOurce is HARD! If you are a noob you should play a few rounds against bots to train yourself.

Do you need a mouse to play this game on a notebook? Is it recommended? -
