Right now I have the 8400M GS. Should I upgrade to the 8600M GT?

What are you planning on using it for? Most DX9 games will run on both, 8600 will run everything better.
If you feel it's worth the 100 or so dollars then upgrade. If not, stick with what you've got.
IMO, it's a GREAT upgrade, and well worth your money. I can't back anything up with solid figures, but from personal experience there is a difference, only slightly noticeable with older games, but when you get to pushing your vid card (8400) that's when the 8600 just starts to breath. -
I went from having the intergrated x3100 - a motherboard swap later I'm running the 8400.
I plan on playing COD 4 (a lot) and GTA 4 when/if it comes out.
I also plan on getting Crysis and SupCom -
Get the 8600 if you want to game, you won't be disappointed.
-
You'll be wanting an 8600m GT to be able to play those games on at least medium then.
-
if u can wait a little, i would just wait for a different mainstream card to come out. if u can't and want to get in the action asap, i'd go for 8600 - it's a really good middle guy card.
-
It'll cost me a little more but I'll most likely get the 8600 now and dump it on ebay later.
Money is not a problem for me, I make $28 a week playing video games!
But what are the odds they will come out with something better than the 8600M GT? -
100% chance something better will be made.
-
But would it be able to fit in my inspiron 1520?
-
8600m GT is *IT* for the next six months or so in 15.4" laptops. ATI has little to offer at the moment, and nothing of significance on the immediate horizon. Same with nVidia. Perhaps they will be able to get a little faster clocks with an 8600m GTS or GTX or something like that, but considering the next gen of desktop cards aren't even released yet I think we're "stuck" with the 8600m GT for the time being (unless you can get the ATI 2600 - but that's not significantly better)
-
You are correct .
Like BIG_V said "Wait a little & buy santarosa refresh edition with new VGA" -
oh, and by the way, i don't think u can swap video cards on dell 1520's
please, i beg u to correct me if i'm wrong(cuz my hope never dies lol)
-
You can with other Dell parts as long as you opted for a Discrete GPU to begin with.
It's not MXM compliant, but if you bought a Inspiron/Vostro with a 8400M GS, you should be able to upgrade it to a 8600M GT if you buy it straight from Dell (or eBay the exact same model). -
Alienware 8800M GTX in 15.4"
-
Sorry, not Dell Inspiron/Vostro compatible
.
-
Don't we wish
-
I had to buy a new motherboard and the graphics card -
Do you have a real source of that, or just quoting from the rumor that started like 1 month ago?
-
where do you buy those??
And what video card can I (if I can) upgrade my M1330 to?
It has a Intel X3100 right now, so I'm not sure If I can upgrade it. -
If you're using an integrated card, you have no chance of upgrading your video card short of buying another laptop.
-
And probably will cost three times as much as a Dell with 8600m GT.
Should I upgrade to 8600M GT?
