Hello guys, as you might know, the msi gt729 will come with an ati radeon hd 4850 with 1 Go of DDR3 memory. I wanted to know if it was worth the extra-waiting time, cause the gt725 is still very interesting in my opinion. I was concerned about the fact that maybe 512 Mo of video memory could be short for the next games to come in the 2 next years... am I right thinking that? or do you think that this hd4850 512 Mo will still be able to handle the next games(at lower settings of course) ?

    Thank you
    Frank633

It should be able to max almost everything, that really powerful card, video memory does not equte to performance at all.

The 512mb version will be fine, it is strong, but not strong enough to use the extra memory, is the resolution not 1440x900 or something on the MSIs anyways?

This card is much stronger than the 9800m GS you were asking about in the other thread.

Yes thank you for your answer, the native resolution of the screen is 1680 X 1050. So you think this 512 Mo card is strong enough for the futur years? That i won't NEED the extra 512?

oh ok, no laptop cards are just not at the point where that extra 512mb becomes useful, heck, some desktop cards cant even use the extra memory.

My 4870 can because I play at 1920x1200, and it is much strong than any laptop setup, and unless your playing at at least that resolution, then it would be pointless.

The only game I've run into trouble with is GTA IV, and that's an anomaly all around. I'd still like the extra 512, but I'm not fretting about it.

ok so then I think i can say my choice is made... ill get the gt725, the only sad thing is that i'll get a 32 bits OS :(, until june 2010 i'll have a win 7 RC 64 bits... but after, i'll have to upgrade my vista 32 bits to win 7 32 bits... unless that by that time i can get my hands on a copy of a vista 64 bit installation cd, then use my laptop license on it...

Really as long as you have at least 3gb of RAM your fine, for what your doing anyways.

I went back to XP 32bit and 3gb is more than enough, I have never went over 2GB of usage.

I have noticed that in every day usage, the OS will make use of almost the entire 4GB of RAM. Gaming is a different matter all together though.

I was referring to Windows 7 X64 and it is not a bad thing. I will explain. The actual OS uses less resources than Vista and runs extremely smoothly for me (better than XP) but I have noticed that during file copy operations or installations a lot of RAM is used. This is a good thing since it is so much faster.

I think with the older OS, more of that is used from the page file instead which of course is slower.

Vista is a different case since by default it needs more resources to actually run.

Oh I loved W7 when I had it, it was having a lot of BSOD and hardware issues, same with Vista, so thats the only reason im on XP, I really prefer W7 though, great OS.

I think I found the solution to my problem anyway. I could order the vista install cd's (without licence) so that it's cheap, use my licence key that came with the computer to install vista 64 bits, and then upgrade to win 7 64. You think this would work? Cause until june or until i get the vista installs, i'll run win 7 rc 64.

Im quite sure you have access to both 32 and 64 versions, that should work just fine.
