I'm currently trying to run WoW WOTLK on max gfx that means max shadows and max multisampling. My computer is an AW M17 with xfire 3870's and a p8600

now the game runs well at 2x multi and shadows halfway up, but when i get to a forested area the game lags a bit and i get some stuttering. I am wondering if my computer shouldn't perform that well, or is it a driver problem? I used to have a problem with certain parts of the game until i updated the drivers, but i am still using the AW drivers.

    thank you for the help.

I know that the M17 has had some problems with stuttering due to heat output, there are countless threads on this subject... let me link you to the best one to help you

Here is a link to a bios driver that is supposed to help with the stuttering, I don't know what you have installed though

Oh and here is the most recent thread which I was following that looked promising... maybe it wasn't heat after all!

youve got to mess with the settings. cant just put everything on max, especially shadows. If youre still using aw drivers, try 9.6 drivers. You can also try turning off one of the gpus in ccc. You can turn it off by clicking on "disable catalyst ai."

I have seen no stuttering problems with the p8600. It is mostly with quad cores.

Yea I was wondering if the cards should or shouldn't be able to run WOTLK on Max gfx.

WOTLK's shadows destroy require some pretty beefy gfx. What fps do you get normally, and what fps in heavy shadows? Your cards are nice, but even the beefiest cards have trouble with max shadow.

Ya I have a similar setup with my desktop, when I max the shadows I take a severe performance hit.
