I just came across this F2P game at the Game & Game site ( silkroadonline.net). Looks like an intersting Asian-themed MMORPG. I was just wondering if anyone has played this game before and can give me your opinion on it. The graphics look quite nice, there are a total of 23 characters models (13 male, 13 female) to choose from and they have a hilarious cartoon game guide^^

One of my friends was addicted on it while we played WoW and he didnt want to put out the money for it. He said theres little that makes your character much different from any other. I'll ask him what else he though of it.

    Thanks.
Yeah, after looking at the items, they are quite limited, so characters will be very similar. I'll just give it a try anyway.

I've just downloaded this myself and will probably check it out in the next few days. It's free so the only thing i will have wasted by playing it is time

its pretty good for a free mmorpg but its still pretty limited and boring... but i know several people that are addicted to it. i prefer to spend the 15 a month or so to play on line on something like wow or coh or cov but silkroad is definatly one of the better free mmorpgs

The quests are quite similar to WoW, but the PvP needs a bit of tweaking. A fun game nonetheless. Graphics are quite nice indeed. And you get better pings than the majority of WoW servers.

I had more fun playing this than WoW, but then thats just my opinion.

This game is good and fun for the 1st few level
But later on you will find it very very hard to lv up, mainly you because you will drink potion like water and you will need an auto program and let it do it for you.
I played it to lv20 on closebeta and openbeta. The fighting is very slow, it heavily base on lv and skill point, speak of skill point , it level up independent with exp point, so you can be lv 20 and lv1 skill and most ppl do this so they have like 8 million of skill points then they play the game, that the biggest exploit in the game, lot of ppl farm skill point early in the game (from lv1) to have like million of skill point then they play the game for the higher skill lv the harder to get skill point.
Graphic look good, sound look good, gameplay is slow, when fighting just too slow, moving around is slow (the land is vast and horse cost money and can only use one time and die easyly).
So I suggest you try this and if you like it then go on. These are my opinion.

Yeah, after 1 day of playing - lvl 8 - the game got a bit boring. But I decided to continue. It's the nicest looking free mmorpg I've come across so far besides CABAL Online (which is still in beta, or at least I think it is). Leveling up to lvl 10 got much easier after using the xp boost provided with every new player; theres another one for getting to lvl 20 too. All in all, it's a nice game all for the price of nothing ;)

I've now created a multitude of characters on various servers. I didn't know that it takes 7 days to delete one! But finally, I managed to create a character that I like - I used a female, sword and shield, and primarily concentrate on lightning force skills.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had the same experience as me when using the 60% experience helper. Aftering using it the first day at lvl 5 (it's supposed to last for 24 hours - limited to 3 hours/day), it ran out the next day. Anyhow, I am now using the 100% exp helper usable at lvl 10; so far all is well (but its only the first day).
Other than the servers being full in the early mornings (7:00AM - 10:00AM PT), which is fine with me as I usually play later in the day, the game's great. Nice graphics, whether/time-of-day effects to seal the deal!
How do these companies benefit from offering these games for free? Well, they have the item mall for premium item sales (available through PayPal etc.).
I'll post some more screenshots showcasing the time of day effects; they really are quite nice to watch - I especially liked watching the sunset, the stars in the night sky, the sunrise, then the glare of the sun in my eyes. Other weather effects include rain (which sometimes causes lag), lightning and thunder.... As I said before, very impressive for a F2p game.

Yeah, I made the mistake of using up all my SP on some of them.... I'm sticking to the zombie girl character now.
The cabalonline.net site doesn't seem to update its news anymore... I wonder if they're even going to have an open beta or if they will just stop their service as cabalonline.com is already running on a P2p basis.

Oh an here's an example of the time of day effects which I really like:

You have to farm SP (i belive that what it was called) early on in the game (like lvl 10-20). And it takes a very long time, very long. That is by far the worst part of the game. You have to get around 3k-5k i believe, if you want a good high lvl character. I heard its very fun at high lvls though. Other than that i liked playing it, I think I had like a lvl 15 with arounish 600sp or so. I don't remember completely.
I think I would recommand Kal Online more if you want an Asian themed mmorpg. Its graphics are just as good, and there is no early lvl grind. Ofcourse there is no silk trade aspect to it, but you can raise pets in the game though.

Yeah, i have around 250SP at lvl 16 now. I've tried KAL and didn't really like the look and feel of the game. Thanks for the recommendation though.

I played ROSE ONLINE when it was in North America beta, and found it very fun and addicting for quite awile. Though, now that its retail it costs per month, a bit less than WoW.
