Great news today!
Sim City 5 is under development and most likely will be announced at GDC next week!
I'm extremely happy to hear this. I've been wanting this game so bad for a long time now. Sim City 4 is still a great game, but the UI and graphics are too outdated at this point. Hopefully Sim City 5 will be a worthy addon to the series![]()

make ALL the ghettos.
I recently gotten the hang of making a utopia in SC4. Hopefully, SC5 won't be as merciless as SC4. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Hope it can bring back the feel of Sim City 2000, but with graphics and sound for the current era of games. Definitely interested to see the end result.

I've always wanted to try SIM CITY. Maybe I'll give the next one a shot. I just don't fully understand the Point. I have also recently been looking at ANNO 2070. I just can't pull the trigger. I've never played this genre and I feel that I will get bored with it fast. Can anyone give me some advice regarding this genre and what the main point of SIM CITY is? Also, is ANNO 2070 the same thing?

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
No Anno 2070 is different from SimCity. Anno 2070 is kind of like a strategy-building game where your city is in direct competition with another city being developed by a rival faction. Therefore Anno 2070 is more like Civilization but with more emphasis on city-building.
In SimCity, you are literally building and managing your city like a city. You don't need to worry about other things except natural disasters. You build, manage and simulate running a city like a mayor. -
Unseen new graphic engine, called Glassbox, with a multiplayer mode and a non linear pattern for road and upgradable buildings. It's a pity will be out only in 2013
EDIT: Rumored screenies!

I'm in the same "hope" wagon. I loved SimCity 2000, but can't get fully into SC4, don't know why.
-
Hmm I had to check that it's March 1, not April 1...
Anyway, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! What a (pleasant) surprise! I'm really looking forward to it.
-
Wow! This is one of my favourite games! One of the best gaming news so far this year!
-
0o0o0oo0 pretty!

I haven't seen this posted yet so here you go:
SimCity Insider's Look GlassBox Game Engine - Part 1 - YouTube
This really looks amazing if they manage to keep that level of simulation in the final game. Wondering how much computing power something like this will take though.
Overall I am getting more and more excited
-
DAMN IT LOOKS SO AMAZING!!! I think I am going to empty my schedule for simcity

I get on a Sim City kick about once a Decade.. Guess time is about up..
-
As long as I have an unlimited budget to create and destroy I'm good.
-
What a step up from the last game! I'm honestly excited about this game, and I'm pretty sure they be as more detailed than ever in this game.
-
Looks a lot better than Sim City Societies (which I uninstalled within a day). I still play Sim City 4 and a bit of the flopped and flawed Cities XL. Cant wait for Sim City 5 now
-
Looking forward with this game. I've been a sim city fan. I hope it'll be much more better than sim city 4.
Is it true that you can play multiplayer in sim city 5? online? -
Sim City 2000 was the best IMO. I cant play SC4 without eventually throwing an alien in there to destroy the city.

I wish they would remake Outpost, (Sim City in Space)
-
I'm quite excited for this. I was involved in the Cities XL pre-launch community, but from the first hands on with the beta, I couldn't stand it in practice. It will be interesting to see how the new modeling system they are talking about (actually simulating each citizen and resource rather than having high level models guide gameplay) works out. I bet it will be a good work out for your CPU to say the least.
-
Bummer, seems like an always online system.
-
? That sucks... So that probably means a hobbled or non-existent mod community, and no playing after EA kills the servers.
-
simcity can only entertain me for about a day or two, getting the "i finished this game" feeling kinda fast and cant find a reason to finish it again.
-
Its going to have an always online DRM
-
So no one is playing this? Anyone run into issues loading your previous cities? I can't get into the first 2 I created.
....ttalk -
I picked up my pre-order last night and to be honest, the 'always online' method is starting to show its flaws. Right now EA's servers are so hosed that you can't even load your city. This is a game that really needs to have a single player, local save mode.
-
Has someone played it already? Any opinions?

HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
awesome thanks for posting about this! I sure hope there are 10 times bigger maps :/
-
Havent got it yet... i bought a cdkey for 44$ but its only for the 8th... anyway its not like it worth playing right now... queue... and cities rollback...
You have 2 choice right now... wait for bug fix or wait for a server emulator from the pirates... -
So...the newest city I've created is saving properly. The maps need to be a lot bigger though.
....ttalk -
It's a sign. It means, you made a mistake of financially supporting that type of DRM.
-
Bought this game because i am a big simcity fan. Did not know it was based on server availability. I am REALLY disappointed. Can't even play it. Save your money. Will be doing a charge back on my credit card.

HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
oh wow missed this...so sim city 5 is out? what is it called? Is it this simcity 2013 or whatever?
-
It's called SimCity, you can't play edition because our servers can't handle the terrible DRM.
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
huh?
What are the pro and cons? Also what are maps sizes compared to simcity 4? Are you stuck still loading zone to zone in region or is it all one open map? -
Did you not read this thread or any other threads on the net? The game is run server side, so you can't do anything, even load the map if the servers can't handle it... You always have to be online and connected to the server.
I don't get why people just don't play Cities XL Platinum, it's a whole lot cheaper too. -
On EA Origin there was nothing saying this game is online only. Unfortunately i did not do any internet research until after my purchase. If you look at customer reviews on Amazon you will see over 600 very angry comments and overall rating of one star. There is NO reason to make this a DRM server based game. Lame,EA....just lame. Then to crash so bad no one can play?? Even worse.
-
Because they don't want to. Please stop spamming threads for games you don't personally like or aren't interested in.
On topic, the always online stuff needs to be backed up by server support that can actually handle this kind of thing. How many triple A launches have to be wrecked by crappy server support until these companies get it? Yesterday was pretty frustrating. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
i just say this thread the other day...didn't realize until last night that this thread was a year old or whatever. I thought it was about a new game not out yet. After seeing it was out i spent 30 mins googling but details about actual gameplay are sparse. My concern was about 100% open maps. I hated how Simcity 4 had this huge region but you have to play each section as a separate game :/ I didn't find any info on stuff like that but if it is a DRM online only thing psh screw it.....still stuck with Simcity 4 than. And at that rate I'll play RCT3 over simcity since I have played SC4 far more than RCT3 -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
its basically everyone one of them, they calculate the servers the game medium run not for the launch or initial run. It saves money.
What they could have done is to offload the launch load by allowing users to download the game for at least a week before the launch, this is what happens on TW games, steam servers are them saved by the 20-40gb download of the game at massive quantities -
They did have a staggered launch and still couldn't cope, and they had a pretty long beta.
Still... I still don't get why this aggravation and price is worth it over Cities XL, and seems no one else does either, other than nostalgia and stubbornness with just cause, cause they got no good reason. Interesting.
But I would agree, if you don't like this type of DRM and don't like having to depend on a server for single player, then by all means, support it financially. That will show EA you mean business and want change. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
by staggered launch you mean launch dates different for each continent? thats the only thing.
In the end I would still like impressions from the game if anyone is able to play it, aside the fact that the space for the cities are way too small -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
That alone makes me not care anymore...i thought SC4 was too small so i am still stuck waiting for a new simcity game :/ -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
me as well, I was pretty disappointed by the review from ars and what they complained about the city limits, and I have to agree with them, looking at the pics its was too small, and seriously no subway? -
My GPU usage is only 70%. I'm getting very low framerate at ultra settings when I could, if the game actually bothered to use my entire GPU to its full potential, get smooth fps at maxed settings. This is an annoying bug
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
it could be a CPU limitation. I remember SC4 when it came out required top of the line CPU for smooth game play -
I would agree if it weren't for the fact that the game is using about 20% of the CPU, according to task manager. This is without a city built - just an empty bit of land!
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
well than it obviously isn't that ^^ -
If we wanted to play Cities XL, we'd friggin play Cities XL. Jesus Christ.
