I've had Simcity 4 up to now, and I have to say it's the best simulation game I ever owned next to the Sims and Sims 2. But I've been checking out another one by EA, Simcity Societies, and the idea of creating individually unique settings has appealed to me but never got my hands on one. Anyone played this game? I'd really love to hear about the gameplay on it, and how it would compare to SC4. :)

It's terrible according to earlier reports from forum users, apparently EA dumbed the game down completely alienating all fans of the original franchise.

For a future game check out cities XXL I think its called. Its in Beta stage now but looks good and has a lot to offer city creators. Hopefully it'll be good upon release.

Yup, SC:S was an abomination, but CXL is the last best hope for hardcore city builders. Should be out around the end of the year or beginning of next year.

SimCity Societies is horrible. Steer clear at all costs!!! Surprisingly, I'm still playing SimCity 3000 and considering getting SimCity 4.

    Not for me.
With the impressive lists of mods and extras SC4 is the best game I've ever played. And its longevity is awsome.
    SCS is crap.

Agreed. Simcity Societies was garbage. SimCity 4 easily takes the cake here.

Realism, intelligence, planning, features, architecture & construction, Landmarks, challenge, plugins/mods, God mode, design your own plot in BAT tool, terraforming, and all the power you need, Simcity 4 Rush Hour FTW.

What angered me more was that Maxis sold off their rights to Titled Mills production to design it, thus titled the reign of Simcity forever. SCS is in my opinion, is horrible. I had a 7 year old cousin and believe me, he mastered SCS within a week.

Simcity is one of the greatest simulation games out there and it isn't new. It's been here long since the late 80s. It's the game that brought Maxis to where they are. Then The Sims came along.

Hmmm.... I used to love simcity - got my first taste of it back in the Nintendo days. Can't remember the last one I played - may have been 3000 or one before that, but after seeing the enthusiasm here I may have to go check out what's new in the line. (Oh, and the package deal posted by ClutchX2 from Best Buy didn't hurt - I better go +rep that! Thanks!)

Thanks for all who posted and voted so far! ;) I was crossing my fingers that there will be a succesor to SC4..a SC5 perhaps? But I guess with EA selling off the franchise to another developer, Simcity has lost its glimmer. I think it's Cities XL and not XXL. I hope this new city builder is just as great as SC4 or even better.

It is Cities XL. I'm active on and off on thier forums. It's in closed Beta at the moment. Being developed by Monte Cristo, out of France. The French and German releases are slated for some time in Sept of Oct if memory serves, English release date is unannounced.

There have been some major gripes by the grognards, and we are seeing the typical feature cuts that come at the end of every development cycle, but in general, it is looking pretty good. People are a bit concerned about overfocus on developing the MMO aspect though.

You might also try City Life. I personally don't like it all that much, but it is lightyears better than SCS. And there are people out there that are fans.
