It's released right? I thought there would be some threads about it, but I can't find them... I know people have been asking for the last few months about laptops for playing it though.
So who has it now? Opinions? I bought my key-code but am waiting for it to be delivered.... I think they are back-ordered.

looks pretty boring to me, not my type of game.

Yeh, I've been wondering about this also, how's the game, I'm thinking of buying it.
-
lol thanks for the input Narsnail -
What's backordered? You should've bought it from Wal-Mart, they had 5 million copies of the Collectors Edition.
I played it a couple days ago (shhhh) and it's, well, a Sims game. The seamless neighborhood is nice, but it's pretty much Sims2 with a minor graphical update.
Oh, and Microtransactions. So instead of $20 expansion packs, we're going to get $0.25 clothing and $10 objects. -
it's decent. i'm coming from the first generation of Sims games, so it's a bit different to me. you can let your character walk around outside of the house and go more "downtown" into the development.
there are many more interactions you can do. rather than having a horoscope thing, you have traits that determine what extra abilities your character can do. if you make your character enjoy computers, he/she can overclock or hack computers. there's all sorts of little interactive changes they've made, but again, i'm coming from The Sims rather than Sims 2.
granted, i didn't really play much of it (was kinda toying around with it at someone's house), the game seemed a bit fun if you're into the life simulation genre.
you can earn life goals by selecting which random life goal you would like to accomplish, however, the goals are generally geared towards which attributes you select for your sim. if your sim is athletic, a life goal for him may be to learn a soccer or something - it's whatever one's you select as you progress your sim.
apparently you can even have your sim fight burglars if you select the "brave" attribute.
of course, there are numerous items you can buy and whatnot to decorate your house.
i feel the game is pretty fun in spurts, but i guess it can get addicting as does any game where your micromanage a character and what it grow pretty fast comparatively to real life. if you're into the genre, then perhaps demo or pick up the game - it is pretty fun! -
I don't live in the US so I couldn't go to Walmart... well we have Walmart in Mexico... but I doubt they have it, or if they do it's not in English, haha. I bought mine from G2Play.
It'll be interesting to see the microtransactions.... this is the first Sims I've bought, mostly because of the ridiculous amount of money they want for the finally complete Sims 2 game if you bought expansions as they came out.... we'll see what happens this time. At least with microtransactions you can buy exactly what you want -
-
The only Sims, that got me entertained for more than 20 minutes was Sims 1. After that they got too childish and "pink".
PS: The only reason I ever tried Sims 2 was to find the more interesting ways to kill the sims. xD -

-
I think i am going to buy the sims 3 this friday, because it is the only game my girlfriend will play and i feel if I can get her to play this game with me maybe i can get her to play other games with me, sort of an introduction to the addiction
-
the fact that now the neighbourhood is in a continuous map speeds up the killings, with no more loading time.sweet

I already have some propositions for Sims 3 expansions :
Sims 3 : World at War
Sims 3 : Modern Warfare
Sims 3 : Serial Killer -
Bought the CE yesterday. Installed it, downloaded the bonus town and fancy European sports car, and somewhat poked around the tutorials. Looks like it'll be fun. I bought it solely based on PC Gamer's raving (92%) review for it.

That grill-party sounds pretty fun to do x]
hahah
I bought it yesterday and was playing all day. Pretty fun.
But I seriously have to try that grill-party. -

I might pick it up today...

It runs decent on my 1.4Ghz C2D and GMA 4500mhd believe it or not...

I've played it a bit. EA have made some changes in broad brush strokes rather rather than fine ones:
- seamless neighbourhood
- much more complex sim builder (although they seem to come out more chubby-faced; and when I simmed my missus, it came out a lot better in Sims 2)
- more customisable personalities
- fully colour/pattern-customisable furniture
Apart from that, it hasn't made much progress on Sims 2 at all, and much of the content has just been ripped from Sims 2, except now you can place objects diagonally, and customise the patterns and colours to your heart's content.
It's also disappointing that they have stripped the game bare, obviously planning to rehash the same expansion packs as before. Pets and University bring added value that you would expect in an expansion pack but parts of seasons, nightlife, and business you would expect to have been brought to the new game. That's what a sequel is for, right? Improvement and new content? Not just modernising the graphics? -
I agree with you gls5000, with basically everything. It seems pretty difficult to make a person accurately looking in Sims 3, which I don't understand because it seems so customizable. Hair styles are definitely lacking.
I'm also disappointed with not having a lot of the things I saw in the Sims 2 expansions... I'm not really planning on purchasing 10 expansion packs either. By the time they are out though I doubt I'll still be playing the game, so we'll see. -
Ah, yes, I was gonna say about the hairstyles too. Definitely lacking, like you said. And it's all or nothing with the stubble. When I try to sim myself I need a slight stubble, which was possible in Sim 2, now it's either baby smooth or nearly-a-beard.
-
I'm just going to wait until people start going more massive on the mods before I get it. Mods for the Sims are usually the bes part lol

Been playing it for a few days now and really enjoying it! My favorite part of the game is designing and customizing my home and property. Besides going to work and having a GF, I really have not done much else in the game, so there's still a lot for me to explore.
-
Played it over the last two days for probably a total of 12 hours. Can't get to first base with any sim, either gender. And my oven burned to the floor because my sim left the waffles still cooking when his carpool ride showed up for work. LOL!
The game is...wait for it... awesim in it's own mundane way as far as games go. -
I got it Friday and haven't gotten the chance to play it much because of sorting out some issues with my new laptop, but I've managed to create a sim and I'm working on building a house. I'm finding it really hard though...it seems like EA stripped the game and shipped it with the bare minimum build/buy items and character customization tools so that you have to buy more from the EA Store in order to get a decent selection. And the EA Store prices are insane - $19 for an item set? Really?
Once I actually get into the new gameplay additions like the seamless neighborhood, my opinion might change...but right now I'm not enjoying Sims 3 as much as I enjoyed 2, base game without expansions. -
I really want it, especially since I don't have to run Windows to play it... but I just really hate how they are trying to charge a fortune for everything, and purposefully leaving things out of the game so they can charge more later to add them.... not sure I want to get in on that
-
You mean it runs in Linux??? Or OSX?
-
-
Just buy the core game and don't bother with the pay-for dlc. Simply use the user-created content exchange or make your own. -
-
I've been tempted just a tad bit......aside from the user-created stuff though, feels like a rehash of Sims 2 from what I've seen/heard. Can definitely tell EA plans to continue milking the franchise like they do with EA Sports.....
-
I haven't played this much yet because I have spent more time installing, testing, patching and benchmarking games than really playing them so far on my new NP8662 laptop.
However, what I have seen so far looks really good and I like the seamless neighborhood environment, the improved graphics and it still has the fun of the Sims 2.
It also runs really well on my Q9000, I have it at 1680 X 1050 resolutions, high settings and I get 150 fps. Makes me wonder if they had multi core in mind because it seems to use all 4 pretty well. -
Might get the game in a few days, its not really my style but the first done did well for a while and it would be a nice change of pace from FPS games.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I'm starting to loath EA... first DRM and now a game where you have to pay extra for more features... epic failure on their part, and even more failure on the part of those that continue to support them.

maybe I'll see what the iPhone version does

Red Dragon, people have very short memories. People hated EA for eating up so many developers and rightly so. But a few good releases shut them all up.
damn shame. -

Contains Securom
Also sims sucks xD -
Daemon Tools. -
-
I never worry about securom or let it prevent me from buying any games I want. I have noticed a few games have actually disabled it through official patches.
Quake 4, for example, quietly disabled Securom in patch 1.04, GTA IV has an ''unreleased'' method that the support department use to trouble shoot Securom issues which disables securom, a few other games have done the same but I don't remember their names.
I just buy the games and find an unofficial or official method. Of course, I would prefer if it wasn't there in the first place but that's how it is.
This is also why I have come to really like Steam. Having to use a CD or DVD each time I play a game is simply a nuisance! -

I can't believe I dropped $50 on this game, after three days of playing it and liking it, I no longer have any interest in the game whatsoever! I always make stupid decisions when buying games and waste money. I feel bad now.
-
Haha, yeah I haven't played it a ton since I bought it either... glad I got mine for $28 or something
Sims 3... is nobody playing it yet?
