I know the name contradicts itself, but I think it would be cool if someone created a single player game that acted liked an MMORPG.
Where the computer would have 1000 other players that started the game the same time you did at level 1 and went around questing and asking you to join their party and what not. It would definitely take some serious AI, but I don't think it's impossible.
Would be fun to play when you don't have internet access for extended periods of time, but want the feeling that you're playing with other people.
-
Somehow the idea doesn't make any sense... it would still be a single player game
-
You mean Dragon Age: Origins?
-
Not really. Think WoW with you and a bunch of bots, except the bots have actual AI and interact with you/the world, but the server only runs when you're logged on.
I don't really want it to be WoW, because I don't like WoW, but I'm just using the most widely known mmorpg out there. -
Those bots wouldn't be paying a monthly subscription fee, and therefore, your idea is not worth anything to any game companies
-
This is easy, just don't treat the people online like they're real people
-
A lot of hardcore guild I think do this. The players are just a means to get the boss kill and the gear.
-
Demon's Souls seems to be something of the sort you're talking about.

.hack is sort of like this and in a way so is phantasy star online

Err..................Guild Wars ?
If you want single-player experience, Guild Wars is your way to go, because if you are smart enough, you can completely avoid contact with any other members of the human race while playing, and the campaigns are actually fun, and not based on grinding like all the other MMORPGs out there. -

guild was is good since you can play with NPC's but it is a real MMO not a single player one. Still good suggestion.
Plus unlike other MMO, no monthly fee so that really sets it apart on its own. -
Final Fantasy 12 for ps2 sounds like your game. I remember buying it and going "hmm....this is an mmorpg minus other online players...." and then never picking it up again. (i hear its amazing though if you give it a chance).
-
Failgate London has singleplayer, but w/o the bots you're looking for.
-
your exactly correct on both they are single player mmo's both with an online mmo parts.
-
I think he means actually offline. I.e. WoW offline. It looks, plays, and feels like an MMORPG, but you are able to play it by yourself with no internet connection.
That would be pretty sweet imo.
-
Why would anyone create bots to play WoW when there are so many real people who are willing to pay money to play it?
I d rather think about earning money and buying some satellite internet rather then dreaming about an offline world filled in with super complex AI bots.
I can imagine bots making a good laugh out of you because you dont have arena achievements and they do. Imagine world full of bots who dont wont to play with you because you fail. That would be THE FAIL
-
That's exactly what I mean. I'm not going to have internet for the next year, so any of the suggestions that involve an actual internet connection don't help me.
FF12 is nothing like an MMORPG, not sure how you'd get that impression. And in order to beat some of the harder levels in GW you do need help from other players, henchmen are just not strong enough in some cases. -
thats actually "making virtual friends" at a whole new level
Single Player MMORPG
