    Okay, this might be a stupid question. But what's better:

    A 'single' GeForce 8800m GTX or say, a 'dual' gefroce 8700m GTX...

    I would imagine the dual would be better, even though its a lesser model. My hypothesis was that...an 8800 can do things 8700's cant...but the things 8800 can do that 8700 can do too...well, the dual would do it better...make sense?

    No? Well then someone elaborate for me PREZ! XD

    Actually, a single 8800m gtx is better than 8700m gt in sli (two of them). Even the 7950 gtx in sli is better than the 8700's in sli.

    i highly recomend getting the single 8800M GTX, its better than two 8700gts and also better than two 7950 gtx

    and its more future proof

    and also alot of games dont support SLI mode, so there not too much increase in FPS

    @AzzyDude24601:

    The reason the 7950 is better is because it represented the very top of the line from the last generation, while the 8700 represents somewhere just above the midrange this generation. There is typically a pretty huge divide between the power of nVIDIA's midrange and the power of their top-end, which is why the single 8800M is still better than the dual 8700's.

    @Masterbassist:

    From what I've seen, your claim about the single 8800M being more powerful than dual 7950s just isn't true. That's what nVIDIA was claiming before the card released, but real-world results show that the dual 7950s are more powerful than a single 8800, which is really to be expected.

    yes buts thats only usually a few FPS and is actually on par or just a bit bit better on a few games, and drivers in the future could help it even more. Its most more cost, power, and future efficient to go with one 8800m GTX.

    Actually the benchmarks I have seen so far on Crysis shows that the 8800m GTX is more powerful than dual 7950GTX in SLI. I still conclude that in shader intensive games a unified shader architecture is better than the architecture that is in the 7 series from Nvidia.

    Check the benchmarks in the Sager/Clevo forum and you will see what I talk about regarding the performance in Crysis on the single 8800m GTX.

    Ah...that makes sense with Crysis. Aren't there still some SLi optimization problems with Crysis? From what I've seen, performance in games that have SLi optimizations still favors the dual 7950s over a SINGLE 8800M (although dual 8800Ms certainly perform better).

    Seems like SLI is working fine now on Crysis, there is a guy on this forum running Crysis in 1920x1200 with all settings medium in SLI with 8700m GT at 30fps.
