Ok, I've been so obsessed with getting this game running on my N10 netbook that I forget to play through a full game and see it for what it is.

Starcraft it is NOT. Development tree goes very deep, large options of units, and tons of ways to win. Took me five hours to complete my first full melee mission. I learned a lot, like how not to spend money, how to protect your critical planets, and that the AI enemy likes to flee the second they're outnumbered.

It's fun, but frustrating at times. I understand the slow pace of the game, but wish there was at least a "2x" button to accelerate time in those instances that you just need to build up your units and tech tree a bit. Perhaps, have an option to automatically toggle off time acceleration if your planet is under attack or something.

Anyhow, great game if you have the time to invest. Easy to play, just takes a round or two (I'm thinking) to understand the units and how best to spend your resources. Although I didn't have much trouble building up a massive fleet.

It's a great feeling to finish your first one, isn't it? I remember my first round took 8 hours, and that was with me and one computer player. Intense.

Yes it is. Wish I had more time to spend on it. Good thing is that it isn't that hard to just save and come back when you need to.

Although, it is like Civilization, which I played a lot in college, where that "must... play ... one ... more ... turn ..." mentality is still there. So many things to do and organize, you hate to leave and come back and remember what your strategy was.

The game is pretty good. My first game took about 8 hous or so against a single "easy" opponent.

After about 2-3 games the average game time at regular speed was reduced to about 4-6 hours. Though I usually play MP games with a friend through Ironclad on the weekends, since we both like to finish games in one sitting.

I especially like the replay feature, really helps you learn from games. I often check out a game after it's done to see what my opponent's strategy was and how I could or should have countered it.

I'm looking forward to new add on "entrenchment" which introduces mine fields and moveable starbases (defensive I believe) after they do some more balancing and tweaking with the

If you like(d) Civilization (any one) ... buy it
If you like(d) Starcraft ... buy it
If you like(d) Command and Conquer (any one) ... buy it
If you like(d) Galactic Civilizations (any one) ... buy it
If you like(d) Dawn of War (any one) ... buy it

If you like(d) RTS or TBS games ... buy it!

BUT (everyone's got a big but), it will consume 5-10 hours of your time any round you play, against AI or online. So be prepared for this!

Very fun game, only played through a total of maybe 5 games (small to medium size) that added up to around 50 hours. I should start playing it again, before the expansion!

If you want to see a long game, buy the $10 expansion to it....called "Entrenchment"...

Just the title should give you a hint of how long the games in the expansion are....

Ew, I'd rather have a Death Star to roll up in and take down everything in one shot. It'd make this awesome game way better...by making matches a lot shorter.

I figured there would be one at some point, mine was just also stating besides preferring SW to ST (not the biggest SW nut but it'd be cool and well I just don't care for ST at all), is that I love the game, but it takes WAY to long. I don't have time to play it, ever.

I can see how shorter games/matches would make for better spontaneous online experiences, but if you could hook up with someone you know or just someone else on the internet who is also out for more of an epic game, this sounds fantastic.

Ever played the board game, RISK? Awesome game, but they would also take upwards of 6 to 8 hours. It would have been awesome to be able to save somewhere in the middle and just pick up where we left off. Sounds like Sins offers just that on a galactic scale. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

yeap, i was alittle put off with the reviews but i dont regret buying it now and would love to have some 1v1 games with mates in the future.

just clocked in acouple hrs with the game, and im actually really enjoying it, its epic in size and details, ive not played a game like it and find it very rewarding, although ive decided to start the mission again as i fumbled around advancing tech which i didnt need trying to work out what i needed to do.
    great fun.

I just finally played a HUGE map with 5 AI opponents with pirates.....holy crap did it take me a long time to win that one. This game is F-U-N!!!

Are they ever going to introduce a campaign mode? Heard rumors of them adding one sometime....

I may well pick this game up this weekend. PM me (this goes for anyone else as well) with info (game server nick, etc.) if you're looking for someone to play who is pretty much guaranteed *not* to wipe the floor with anyone. :p RTS games are pretty much like chess for me. I'll likely never devote the time or effort required to become really good, but I enjoy the game nonetheless. ;)

thanks for the offer, ill dedicate acouple of weeks to the single player mode to learn the in's and out's first, wait to you get it then you will know what in mean, its massive,

the amount of different ways one can tackle the advancement is fantastic.
let me know what you think of it once you get it.

As far as I know there isn't, which I understand, but is why I complain about the length. It's almost impossible to play multi matches because they take so long.

Gotcha. That's dumb. I would think that save-game for multi would be preferable to a lot of people. Guess Ill have to put the request on the Sins board.

I can't remember which strategy game I played, but it had multiplayer save feature. I think one PC did the save and then shared the file with the other PC's so that there wasn't conflicting info.

Thanks for the clarification. This game is back on my next to buy list. :)

What exactly is involved in saving a multi-player game? Is one player the "admin" to manage that, or is it handled on a game server? How do the two players pick up where they left off?

    Just curious how it works.

I picked up this game last week for $20.00 at walmart and I must say its an improvement on Stardocks Galactic Civ series. I've only played 3 1v1 maps but even those took awhile to win. Too much fun to finish off a map with 3 fleets of battleships and cruisers converging on one system with the last of the enemy fleet...*BOOM*. Victory!

    Cheers,

Sins wasn't meant to be the successor to the Gal Civ series. Aside from the sci-fi theme they are totally different games.

Anytime a player initiate a saved, the game is saved automatically on the other players machine too if I remember correctly. Supreme Commander is another of those games that take forever to complete.

Yeah. I love massive scale RTS games, but Supreme Commander was just way too much of a grind. I am enjoying Sins so far, as it is a lot easier to pick up and play, although I am realizing it can go very deep.

Got a quick question. I just reinstalled "Sins of a . . ." on a Vista 64 system and nothing was added to the start menu.

I have to open c:\ and find the exe file to start a game.

I can manually create the start menu items, but wonder why none were created. They were created on my XP system????

    Thanks

my first game took me 4 hours (into the early 300am-ish)

the slow pace can get to you
and learning a whole new faction is like playing a whole new game as each are quite different
I personally perfer the TEC so far.

If this game were to blend in with another game for ground combat, i would have to say Supreme Commander Forged alliance would compliment this game very well. Play this and then play that in turn.

Havn't played MP yet, havn't got the time

Image if 1v1 is taking 4-8 hrs then what will a 10 player game take O.O and the n10 player MP OO.OO

I don't see it . . . .. OK if I switch to non classic start menu then it's there. I guess I will have to create a menu item for it. What a P.I.T.A

I guess all games I install will do that :(

    Bump an old topic!
    This game is awesome!
I bought this last week. My friend and I just finished playing Red Alert 3 (co-op campaign over the Internet) and we needed a new game to play. I never even heard of this game until he brought it up. He said he heard good things and we should probably try it out.
It cost me 20$ and this game is just awesome! I haven't been this addicted to a game in so long. I'm just playing a FFA (with 9 computers) for fun now!

The game are really really long, but I'm having way more fun than I did with Civ4.
    <3 this game.
