Hello. Maybe you guys can help me. I've scoured the internet, read tons of people having this problem, tried the solutions but nothing worked. Maybe one of you can provide better insight. Here goes...

I am playing a heavily modded Skyrim. I get great FPS (around 50-60), and the game runs great, except for the "microstuttering" I'm experiencing. Basically, the FPS doesn't drop or anything, and the game doesn't get laggy, but if I move the mouse up and down in first-person, the game skips some frames it seems. Again, no FPS drop happens and no lag or anything, it just looks slightly jerky, not at all super smooth as 60 FPS is supposed to be. So I'm wondering, what the heck is going on?

Again, I'm using many mods, HD textures, the works, and I'm using a 7970m with the latest drivers. For the record, I've tried to limit the FPS, I've tried enabling/disabling Vsync, I've tried editing different parameters in the .ini files, nothing has worked. I really want to play because the game looks amazing but this jerky camera is a serious annoyance.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Does it improve a bit if you turn off AA and use FXAA instead?

Otherwise, perhaps some particular mod might be running too many scripts on too many actors? Make sure you are using the default uGrids 5, as increasing from 5 to 7 can exponentially cause more actors to load in memory, and scripts from your mods get run on all those extra actors.

It makes no difference if I use FXAA or SMAA, which are my only 2 options using Sweet FX and the Realvision ENB mod.

I tested again tonight and the FPS is now around 35-40 due to mods, but I still get the jittery camera movement. It is subtle, though, but it happens enough to be an annoyance. I've played other first-person games at similar framerates and you can tell there is clearly something wrong here.

I'm not sure what else to try.

What if you don't use the mods, or just try one mod at a time?

For Fallout New Vegas you have the "Sutter Remover". Try and Google something similair.

Okay, so I fixed it! Thanks 1nstance for reminding me about the stutter fix. I tried it before, but I didn't set it up right so it didn't work. Now I tried it again and I properly installed it, and the jerkiness is completely removed!

This is what I used if anyone has the problem in the future. It's called the Skyrim Stuttering 64hz Bug Fix, and can be found here > Skyrim Stuttering 64hz Bug Fix at Skyrim Nexus - mods and community

Okay, so a new problem has cropped up, that's similar to what I was experiencing.

Now, the game has a lot of screen tearing, if I move the mouse quickly from left to right or up and down, you see the screen tearing. There also appears to be some slight flickering of black at certain times as well. It's hard to explain, but it looks like the screen is glowing a bit and the background is black. What is that called?

Anyway, I've tried forcing V-sync, enabling it in Skyrim, disabling it, etc. Nothing seems to stop the screen tearing. Any ideas? My FPS is around 30 due to a ton of graphics mods and yet I still get this annoying screen issue. It's not as smooth as it should be. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm, maybe remove some graphical mods and get your FPS up. See if that helps.

I removed some mods, got my FPS back to 60+, and still get screen tearing. I forced V-sync on in CCC, still get it. It would not go away no matter what settings or mods I used, so I almost gave up.

However, I fixed it! I had to play in windowed mode. In windowed mode, the game performs beautifully, with no screen tearing, stuttering or anything. I was also getting ghostly scan lines as I tried to explain in my previous post, but they are gone as well. Playing in windowed mode is literally the miracle mode that fixes all problems.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help! I appreciate it.
