I don't want to make this into a big PC vs console thread...no haters please. Just want to make an informed decision for getting my son the game. He is an Xbox junkie, but plays PC game hand me downs from time to time.
Is there any viable reason(s) to stick to my mantra of buying games like this in PC form? Or should I get the Xbox version in this instance since he is comfortable with the console? Future mods/upgrades and graphics/smoothness all play a part in the opinions. Let 'er rip...thanks.

you should get it for pc and get a wired xbox controller for him to play it with, thats what i did, as the pc version fully supports the xbox controller.
-
does he have a decent pc? if he does get the pc version for sure because it looks better and is modded with ease. and you can always play it with a xbox controller.

Ha well...it depends on how tolerant you are with Bethesda...does the 360 version have less problems? Yes, by a mile. PC version has oodles...however, there's a couple of user mods that alleviate those problems. So really it's up to you
-
I think that given the mods options (that can go from increasing textures to better look to real added content) I think PC hands down.
About the bugs (on PC and consoles): like with any release we'll have to wait a while (few months) to get the bugs sorted out correctly. -

Buy it on PC, play with the 360 controller. It's the only decision which includes the best of both worlds.
-
I've seen people play it and PC is definitely the best platform for it.. I don't see point of 360 controller with it though..

What are the specs of the computer in question? If it can handle Skyrim, then by all means get it for that.
-
If his pc can run Skyrim easily, then go for that. Otherwise, Xbox. My brother plays it on Xbox and he loves it. I honestly doubt your average person would see the difference between them being massive

I've gotta agree with the others. Get it for pc. The mods alone make it worthwhile and as others have said, if he prefers to usea 360 controller he can do that even with the PC version.

Eurogamer did a face off on all 3 versions and as far as looks and performance goes the PC was the clear winner and that did not account for the mods. If your PC can handle it that's the version I would get.
As someone else said the game is buggy on all platforms but this Dev tends to cater to PC's first. -
Let's break it down for 'im, shall we, guys?
PC Pros:
+ Moddability
+ Better graphics if your system can handle it
+ Will be patched before console versions
+ Can easily choose between a kb/mouse and a controller
PC Cons:

Can you mod the steam version of the game?

Skyrim PC 10000000%
As Oblivion and Elder Scrolls have been before these are extremely community driven/enhanced games you will find so many patches, mods, fixes, add ons, and various other things that you can do on PC ONLY.
Example: Already HaYdeN has made a working multi monitor patch -
I also have my doubts on which platform to buy Skyrim, a PC or PS3. I don't care much about the graphics since I see blurry anyway. I have oblivion on the pc and with all the programmable keys you can use on your keyboard, my only concern is that browsing trough the menu's will be less convenient on a console version?
-
-
I really don't understand all the complaints about menu navigation...you point at the button you want and click on it. There's even keyboard shortcuts if you're too lazy for that.
Another major advantage of the PC version is the command console. If you run into one of those quest-breaking bugs that leave you stuck and unable to finish a quest, you can enter a command to manually advance the quest. If the same happens on PS3 or 360, you're screwed. The only thing you can do there is reload an earlier save and hope it doesn't happen every time. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Pc for sure.
Just a basic mod such FXAApp injector makes the game worth 1000 times the console versions.
And no discs errors, texture problems, broken things, and it's easily tweakable via the ini.
Oh and also with an nvidia gpu you get AO for free and other enhancements.
We could sit all day listing the pros.
Pc.

I ran it on my laptop, albeit old is capable of running a fair few modern games very comfortably. Skyrim absolutely caned the living crap out of laptop. It was awful looking and un-playable on low settings IMHO.
This is the big question.
Is the PC up to the task? I imagine if its a mid spec 6+ month old PC it will struggle..
If it was newer and high spec no sweat,
If so then 360 will be best version. -
Definitively the best option is PC -
if you have a formidable rig, then PC. why? mods
-
Thanks for the responses all...will try to +1 as many as I can. His laptop has an ATI GPU with 1920 native res. comparable to the 8800 GTS in my Dragon, just can't remember the exact model right now.
As far as that goes, Oblivion was brutal on PC's when it came out, especially laptops. Is Skyrim the same? -
Skyrim is still made for Xbox 360 first then ported to PC but now hardware has had a chance to surpass current generation consoles, especially on notebooks. -
PC is always the best choice if you can handle everthing on highest setting and have a proper gaming set up (720p/1080p monitor, surrounding sound system/headset etc.) if you only have a gaming set up for 360, then get the 360 version.
-
It depends on your system.
My friend had an i5 + no GPU (sandy bridge i5 too) with the HD3000 and he couldn't run it as well as a console.
If you have something capable of running modern games, the PC version is nice.
Skyrim seems like a game funner to play on the couch, so I would recommend a Wireless 360 controller if your going to get the PC version. The reason is that the game isn't very hardcore in the competitive combat sense, and its nice seeing the environments on a huge screen. It isn't like Diablo 3 where you are going to handicap yourself with the controller and you need to be super focused, Skyrim is great on a couch. Plus after you end up accidentally playing the game for 20 hours, its way easier to fall asleep in the couch then the computer chair. -
Tried running the game @ 1920x1200 on my laptop's native resolution and I found that removing the AA gives me about the same fps still on maxed settings.
My laptop is over 3 years old, so if you have something around my GPU's power you shouldn't have a problem running it on PC
