I want to use this computer for all the gaming.. Crysis, COD4, BioShock etc.. I want it for the best graphics/fps. I was wondering... Which would be better
As soon as I get the laptop btw, I am going to upgrade to 4gbs ram, only 667mhz since I heard that's all they can support.
Now here's my question.. What's better
512 MB Ram 8700M GT (255 mb turbocache (whatever this means) )
or
2x 512 MB 8600M GT Sli enabled DDR3...
Also, I heard since these models are 32bit vista that I can't put 4 gigs of ram? Is this true?
Is it also true that if I upgrade to ddr2 800mhz the motherboard will automatically reset it back to 667?
Thanks.

This is purely a driver support issue-8700m will probably give you better compatibility. 2x 8600m will be better performance (around 6000's for 3dmark06 i believe) but games may not be compatibile/benefit at this moment from SLI. This SLI technology is hit or miss-some games like oblivion seem to support very well, while others do not. Research Toshiba forums and look at lapotp reviews for comparison.
One last thing-this is not best graphics for Crysis, COd4, Bioshock-now, i would get SLI 8700mGT in Dell XPS M1730 or other company. Unbelivable performance, although a bit expensive. Good luck making purchase0as far as ram, good luck also -
SLI support is a touchy subject. Some games support it, others don't. Then there are apparent driver issues associated with SLI. I recommend browsing the forums for SLI topics as there are heaps and should supply more then enough reading on the subject.
32bit Vista wont recognize more then like 3.5gb total ram. So that means system ram plus video ram. You can put 4gb's in your laptop it just all wont be used unless you step up to 64bit. And right now 4gb for gaming is over the top, 2gbs should do you fine.
And yes, if you buy 800mhz ram it will be set at 667 automatically. No biggie and you wont even notice a difference. -
The SLi will stomp the single card model, I have the SLi1 with 4gb ram, and love the rig it's kind of like owning a High performance car you can tweak to suit your needs(mustang GT500). Great performance, it will match or exceed some $4000+ gaming rigs, + HD-DVD player. Never had problems running any games.

SLI is not for the faint of heart. There are driver issues and workarounds. If you want to stay current you better know how to properly install and uninstall video drivers.
If you have to go with one I'd go with the single 8700M GT. The 8600 may be a 'tad' faster but it's not worth the headache. -
Another question.. does the Sli1 come with 2 512mb cards? Or is it 512 total with sli? Very misleading...
-
total of 512mb i.e. 2x256 for the 8600's in SLI

Would it be better to get that one, or should I go for the even cheapest one http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/rdet.jsp?poid=394305&seg=HHO
I want to be able to play games at a playable framerate ;0 -

It should answer your question for you. I say get the single 8700M-GT.
Sli1 or x205-S7349 from Toshiba
