    Hi all
please see my notebook specs in my sig. when i play cs source, i get great fps (often well over 100). but usually during higher intense parts... lots of sounds.. shooting etc i get a huge lag. the notebook freezes for a few seconds.. i get that repeating sound. after anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds of this lag, everything resumes as normal.

for cs ive reduced all the video settings way below the recommended settings.

    any suggestions?
    thanks!

it sounds like a CPU problem...obviously you have got an excellent CPU, but have you got anything else running in the background?

Def beef up the RAM. Put 4GB in that system man! RAM is so cheap - what are you waiting for? :)

just increase it to 2gb. 4gb is overkill and provides no preformance increases

well 4 GB won't provide performance increases for CSS, unless you have other things running....

some brand new games might benefit.

RAM is pretty cheap right now, you might as well upgrade to 4GB since you also have a 64-bit version of Vista, which will utilize all 4GB's of it.

i think on startup i have about 54processes running, which is not a lot. the taskbar shows:
    windows defender
sync centre (for my cell phone, but it is never active)
windows sidebar, with 2 gadgets (weathernetwork and windows calander)
safely remove hardware icon (for my internal dvd drive)
    windows power management icon
    wlan icon
    sound
    system clock

i was thinking of adding another 2gb stick of ram... so i might do that.

Make sure you are connected via AC power and that your power settings in the Nvidia control panel are for Maximum Performance.

Yeah 1GB of ram is just not enough for Vista. Get at least 1GB more. However I recommend just upgrading to 3GBs. I think that should fix your problems.

I don't think CS:S accesses the hard drive but it could be that too...not sure though.

Make sure you shut down ALL unneeded background apps. That usually helps quite a bit.
