Hi,
I have an ASUS G73jh which was (finally) working great. I now have the following problem:
If I move a window (e.g. Chrome or Windows Explorer) around quickly on my desktop, I can see the windows below it repainting -> i.e. the desktop is repainting slowly.
I have installed a lot of things recently. I wanted to recover to an image I made two weeks ago, but I made the mistake of making a new image first, and it overwrote the image I wanted to restore.
My main suspects are things I did to try to connect a PS3 Dualshock via Bluetooth. But I also installed a freeware frequency analyzer and an update to T-Online's Dialer Protection software.
Does anyone have any idea of what I have broken and how and, most importantly, how to diagnose/repair it?
Thanks.

Have you tried changing themes? I would try using a non aero theme to help isolate the problem.
If this does not help, have you updated your Video drivers and VBIOS?
When the repaint happens do you see any entries in event viewer? -
Hi. Thanks for the help.
-> Try setting a non-aero theme: I select "Windows 7 Basic" and a "Please Wait" message box appears. After about 1 minute, the theme is changed. The first two times I (just) tried this, the theme was not changed. I've never had either problem before (theme change fails, theme change very slow).
-> Event log: the only thing I see is an information entry: "The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because the desktop composition setting is disabled."
-> VBIOS and video driver: up-to-date, but I'm wondering if all the things I did to try to get the PS3 game pad working for GTA Vice City might have done something to the driver.
Just googled "The Desktop Window Manager ...." and did all of the checks for making sure Desktop Window Manager is enabled -> It is and was enabled.
Thanks again. -
I think you are on the right track.... If you run dxdiag.exe from the run dialog do you see any issues?
Also it would be a good idea to check your disk for errors, (open win 7 help and type scandisk if you need instructions.
If no errors are found in either of the above, I think you are right a reinstall of the video driver is a great idea. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
The problem is related to the gpu itself.
Its like hes running without video drivers..it sounds absurd but thats what happens.
Please check if your card is correctly recognized under windows and that youre running the latest gpu drivers.
