I've been looking around, and I've noticed that all the laptops that have the dedicated high end vid cards all have 17 in screens. Do smaller notebooks (12 to 13in screens) with higher end vid cards even exsist?!

I travel a lot for work and would like to have a smaller notebook, but I would like it to run games like CS Source with a nice fps rate and without the people looking like legos.

I've read that Source isn't even that hard on graphics, but I'd like that to be the minimum.

    Thanks for your responses!

Not really, as smaller laptops = smaller space, less heat dispersing, etc.

The only laptops in that area is either a PowerBook/iBook(9200?) or a SONY(13.3" with 6200? Or 6400 don't remember)

I really wanted a 12" laptop with a dedicated card... but I've come to the conclusion I can live with 14" widescreen (my thing with size has to do with taking notes in class -- I'm short and have trouble seeing over a big screen, like my current 15.1" XGA Toshiba). My choice is the Asus W3V -- I can't wait to get one.

Hey the small 13.3" sony-S series laptops have th GeForce 6400 geo. I think it would be able to run CSS no problem at good framerates... although the bigger laptops usually have the "High End" GPU'S.... but for the 12.1-13.3" range I think the sony is the best. But it starts at $1499 I believe.

I Have been looking at 12.1" laptops for a while, i want something small that I can use for gaming. the best I have found is the MSI MS-1013 barebones. you can put an AMD 64 MT 40 2.2ghz processor in it and 2gb of RAM, maybe throw in the new hitachi 100gb travelstar hard drive as well!!

only problem is it comes with a ATI RadeonĀ® Xpress 200M which is better than most with shared 128mb graphics.

check it out its bench tested here.. http://www.tcmagazine.info/articles.php?action=show&id=178&perpage=1&pagenum=1

I think Avertec do a very similar machine but the specs are set by them so you can't custmize it..

Your best bet is a Sony S series or SZ series notebook. The S series comes with a NVIDIA GFG 6400 which offers decent performance. It's the only game in town for small gaming notebook. Otherwise, you'll have to start looking at the 14" notebooks. If you can wait a month or two, the SZ series has a 7400 which should (by my guess) offer comparable performance to an X700 or 6600.

I have also been looking for a small gaming notebook and almost bought the sony s580 but then saw the asus w3v. I believe I will wait for the dual core offerings in a couple of months and hope for a better graphic card in the w3j.

Just saw in PC mag, the Acer TravelMate C200... its the only 12" laptop I have seen with a deacient GPU. It has a Geforce Go 6200. The laptop duels as a Tablet PC and a laptop. It also has a cool finger print reader for security. It would be quite a good small gamming notbook. Not hardcore and wont run all games at Max settings but will run most newer games at medium. Also... does anyone know what the Go 6200 is equivilent to? ATI x_ _.
