I just purchased a laptop to replace my PC, can you tell me how much, and if my games will run better on my laptop because they are laggy and fragmented on my current PC:

    PC:
    -AMD AthlonXP 2800
    -512 MB RAM
    -Nvidia GeForce 4

    Laptop:
    -Core 2 Duo 2.00 Ghz
    -2 GB Ram
    -Nvidia GeForce 7300

Please use either Empire Earth II or Rise of Nations as examples.

All of the specs on your laptop are much more powerful than the desktop system, I actually have a very similar desktop system.

The only thing is the 7300 in the laptop, while it is roughly three to four times more powerful than the Geforce 4 im sure you can do a bit better by maybe finding a notebook with a x1400/7400/x1600/7600/x1700/7700 in it and is will really be a leap in performance since you plan on gaming with the notebook.

The 512MB of RAM you have in your desktop is too little for games (unless they're really old and/or don't need a lot of RAM) is probably hurting your performance and contributing to the game's choppiness. You can tell if you are running out of RAM if your hard disk activity light is active or on all the time while you are playing the game.

The Go7300 as mentioned is a definite improvement over your GeForce 4 but it's a low-end card so do not expect miracles with the latest games if you plan on playing those.

Like Chaz said, its all about the RAM when it comes to games, its most likely whats slowing you down. The graphics card is also huge jump over the Go 4, I almost have no doubt that games will run much faster on your notebook than on your desktop.

I only play WCIII and other 2 year old RTS right now so they shouldn't jump when I'm scrolling across the screen with my mouse right?

The problem isn't your graphics card because any model Geforce 4 can run Rise of Nations, Empire Earth or WCIII on high settings without any effort. The Go7300 is better - but it's still a weak card.

You most likely have some spyware or malware on your pc that's slowing it down. Try running Spybot Search and Destroy, see what it cleans out. A Geforce 4 and 512mb of Ram, while hardly desirable these days, is more then enough for those games. So not point you going away from this forum thinking your machine just isn't powerful enough to run those games.

Your games aren't vey demanding, but if you want a gaming laptop get a Go7400 at least.

    Good Luck

The laptop you bought will serve you fine for those RTS type games you mentioned. It will even play some older FPS games, and the 2GB of RAM will speed things up considerably for today's applications.
