I am trading in my 4 days old Dell 1710 for a 1730 with T9300 and 8800GTX SLI plus a few bucks of course ^^
How is the fan noise in this machine while gaming stock, while gaming with OC and when not gaming?
My dell 1710 which i clocked to the limit runs on full fan speed which is like crazy high, i cant even use the laptopsound i have to use headphones to be able to play with ok sound.
Are these cards even able to OC well at all or do they overheat really fast?

Overheating is one general issue for this notebook (Not all users though), and some tweaking is required to keep it cool. There are a total of 3 fans for this machine, 2 for the GPU and one for the CPU. With the latest BIOS A10, the fans kick in when it reaches 65*C for the GPUs.
Some people say they overheat fast, and there are known issues with the card, but then there ARE some that managed to run really cool. Dust build up can also contribute the problem, as with 3 fans, comes great maintenance.
The twin 8800s should most probably hit around 70 - 80*C on an average 3 hour gaming routine. The fans shouldn't run really loud at all. On idling or surfing the net, it's almost whisper quiet.
But then again, noise is subjective.
If you have an X9000, the BIOS will unlock CPU OC'ing capabilities up to 3.4GHz, the fans will run really loud and full blast. If that is loud for your 1710, then you may not like the M1730 noise at full blast. Yes, I mean all 3 fans run at full RPMs @ 3.4GHz. (Well not that loud for me) but you'll thank its loudness for keeping your GPUs cool and lasting longer.
I get around 65*C maxed out when gaming with my X9000 @ 3.4GHz.
Card OC'ing should depend a card-to-card basis, some cards OC really well, some can't.
PS, how much are you trading for your M1730? LOL and here I am thinking of selling my M1730 parts some time in the future for a more powerful setup to aid my intensive workstation and gaming needs. It's a hell of a great machine, but I guess all things need to be retired and the X9000 doesn't really cut it for my needs. -

The GPU´s overclock really good in these. I even went so far to overvolt them by 0.5v in Nibitor and now have them overclocked to Core 680, Shaders 1650 and Mem 1000

I own a 1730 and I will support anyone considering the 1730.
Go for it.
The Fan gets loud to the point that it's noticeable, but it's not a problem for me at least.
So am getting an Dell XPS 1730 but i have some questions
