I for one did. Those who defuse it think that Megaton will be their last refuge and their only place to shop for supplies. Wrong. You get an awesome penthouse suite in Tenpenny Tower if you detonate the bomb and you've got loads of guards (all holding assault rifles and ammo) to sneak up on. Plus the shops at the Tower are much better.

    So what did you do?

I used Megaton as a hub for a while, then when I maxed out Lockpick and finished Moirya I went back, killed everyone, looted their , broke into their valuables, left the children crying, then blew it up.

Incredibly neat thing: if you get in a corner in the town, then get the Sheriff in sight, but no one else, then sniper him and lay low (hidden), your hostility goes away and bam, neat sheriff gear is yours. You can talk to his kid afterwards and he talks about how things were before his dad died (which, wow, that's a dynamic game interface aint it?). After you kill his dad, he stops following you snoopily around his house you broke into, so you can loot at your will.

Please remember though, there's a Bobblehead in the Sheriff's house. Also, Jericho will remain there even if you blow it up (I'm pretty sure).

    Fun fun to boom boom.

I played the game over 150 hours across three characters.
    Twice defused the bomb.
    Once blew up megaton.

Way better to defuse the bomb, NO ONE in Tenpenny can repair equipment unless you get the ghouls in there somehow (which seems unlikely if you're being evil and blowing up towns). Shops were useless to me on my main character, I had like 45,000 caps and nothing to spend it on but repairs. Now repairs, THOSE were valuable - even with level 100 repair.

lol i want to get to tenpenney tower but the thing is so far away!! i ve only been traveling north and east on the map no west the thing that shocked me the most exploring was when you find that there was another vault which is vault 106 though all you get is some equiptment i didnt understand do you have to ever go there in a mission or something there were like all these flashback when you were in 101

Lastly and this is the most important thing IS THERE a way to get back to 101 or can you never go back(i want to see my girlfriend :D and kill that overseer)? Ive just been doing alot of side missions recently :D

There is something like 7 vaults in total (haven't been playing, thank you Left 4 Dead). Each has something interesting in it, and all are worth going to. Some of them have quest items (one has a violin and sheet music for a quest), some are part of the main story, some have bobbleheads. All of them are awesome if you explore them and pick up all the holotapes.
You can also get the best follower in the entire game, Fawkes, in one of the vaults. But you're required to go to that vault anyway, and you won't just stumble in - it's a bit tough to get into it.

I have explored almost every square foot of the DC wasteland. The game was just so good, I had to keep playing. Character four, it got stale :p

If you go hang out around megaton and check your radio signals, after some time has passed and you've completed quests, you'll pick up a radio signal called "Vault 101 Emergency Broadcast." In the message, Amata will ask for your help as the vault is in chaos. When you get to the vault, you can either kill the overseer, and Amata becomes the overseer, convince the overseer to let the rebels leave (Amata and Butch included - Butch will appear then in Rivet City's Muddy Rudder Bar as a potential follower to those with neutral Karma. Your last option is to destroy the Vault 101 water filtration system, which gives considerable bad Karma, and also causes EVERYONE in the vault to evacuate. Though you never really run into anyone but Butch (and Amata if you play your cards right) after that anyway.

But if you kill her dad wont she be ticked off at you?

The Ghouls quest is stupid. If you kill all the ghouls for Gustavo, wow you get an assault rifle and 500 caps. If you let the ghouls in, they'll kill all the tenpenny residents (besides you), leaving many corpses to be robbed.
Being bad is the better option there.

@Red_Dragon, I killed the Overseer the second I saw him in the second quest.

Well, if you killed her dad before leaving originally, then there's a new over-seer who can't be reasoned with - your options are killing him or convincing the rebels to calm down.
If you didn't, you can reason with him, and get him to let the rebels out, or kill him.
If you kill either, Amata becomes the new overseer and makes you leave the vault.

If you convince Tenpenny to allow the ghouls to move in, the ghouls will still kill all tenpenny residents, but you take no negative hit on the karma, and there are no bodies. You simply enter tenpenny one day and all of the humans are gone, replaced by ghouls. If you talk to the guys you let in (I forget the name of the two male ghouls), they tell you not to go in the basement, that's where they "left the trash." This, IMO, improves tenpenny, as one of the Ghouls can repair equipment.

Also, I played my first character being good just to be good, even if it didn't benefit me. The only things I stole the entire game were three or so books, just so I could get the +2 points on those skill areas.

hmm so basically amata becomes corrupted with power too as overseer

Also plasma i just killed all the ghouls lol but i have two save files one is my current file and the other is to go back and tell the ghouls that gustav wants to kill them......i want the key to that room is there still a way to get it despite getting the rifle + dough?

Also im thinking im taking "the good path" but maybe i should just kill everyone at tenpenney lol it might be hard with all those guards though.

I said "im not going to blow it up" but right after talking to that very annoying female shopkeeper I was like.... Im blowing this place apart just to get rid of you. I killed sheriff person too his hat ran away and blew it up. I went back to the ruins and to my disapointment the goshdarn shopkeeper survived and now is a goul.

Megaton was the first settlement I came across after escaping the vault. And at that point, I was BORED TO TEARS with what I had played thus far. I only kept playing because I figured it would get better, and because of all the praise directed at it.

So I blew up Megaton as soon as I possibly could just to have something to do. I regret that in hindsight, but oh well.

I played 10+ hours on the game before I even got round to blowing up megaton! i had looted absolutely everything of value from that place before hand, now im only 2 main quests past megaton and I've put 30+ hours in, on ONE character. This game rules!
The overseer attacked me when i tried to escape the vault so I had no choice but to kill him unfortunately. Amata was pretty pissed..
