So, MW2 has been out for a month...how is it?

I'm aware of all it's flaws, but after a month of playing it, how do you owners feel about the game?

Are the 9v9 and no dedicated servers that bad or are they playable?

Is the game still fun multiplayer?

I started playing COD4 again and really want to play MW2. I'm considering buying a copy off eBay for $45 and want to know if I'll regret it or not :p

    Thanks!

I actually like the 9v9 cap. It definitely feels like less of a spam-fest than CoD4. The lack of 3x frag grenades helps this as well, as does the making of Martyrdom into a death-streak-only perk.

I would say it's just as fun as, if not more fun than, vanilla CoD4 multiplayer.

If you're getting it for the PC, I wouldn't recommend eBay; the PC version is tied to your Steam account, so if it was ever used before, you won't be able to reactivate it on your own account.

It's still just as addicting as the first night I played it. Connections issues have been present, but not overbearing or annoying by any means. It's a blast, and prestige modes are actually worth a damn this time around.

The game was never unplayable to begin with. The lack of dedicated servers and all the other things they removed does affect the future of the multi significantly, and as such, it is not as recommendable as the first one was.

But the game is still good. Just disappointing in my opinion. Oh ant 9v9 is just on one gametype, the rest are 6v6.

The single-player is enjoyable for a few hours, same as COD4.

The multi-player is a laggy unbalanced mess. A good game makes you want to play it again. MW2 just makes you want to go back to COD4.

i am a former competitive CS player....stopped gaming few months back due to college studies.

but damn..this game brings back the gamer cravings back in me.

and i found it kinda difficult in the beginning....

problem is..it has too many details...which is distracting.

unlike CS..where u can easily focus on enemy...here..the enemy is very difficult to spot with all the grass, objects and lighting.

    who agrees with me?

I have no problem seeing enemy, unless they are camping in the grass across the map and I don't snipe. But a lot more people camp now.

I am getting sick of the matchmaking system, but it's not that bad. It is just annoying migrating hosts, when the host lags, or when the game ends because it can't migrate hosts.

Yeah totally duuuude. If only there was no grass, stones, destroyed cars/buildings and other battlefield debris in modern battlefields, like in CS. It'll make it soooo much easier.

Awesome, thanks for all the responses!

I'm totally addicted to COD4 gameplay and after seeing MW2 videos I just couldn't resist. I heard the lag can be an issue but mainly for those outside the US. I have nothing to do this winter break so I guess I'll go out to Best Buy, try to snag one of their Ads, and get a price match somewhere.

    Thanks again!

My connection is not an issue when playing on dedicated servers. On COD4 I can get 50-70ms ping on the servers I play on. So my connection is fine.

The issue is IW.net. Maybe its great in the US where there are loads of close matches to be found and the hosts all have fast upload speeds, but it sucks over here.

Im being matched with players on the other side of Europe, most of whom have slow upload (no good hosts) and my pings are through the roof. Not only pings - the whole quality of my connection is crap, the lagometer is all over the place.

Everyone who predicted the game would suck on account of no dedicated servers was right.

    proven fact!
if you have a beast machien and run the game at highest settings, people are camoed in....

this is game super hard to spot people if they are prone....

but the game is good for $30, I don't think it was worth $60
but then again I only got it for the single player :D

The game has more colour and better graphics than MW1 and also a better sp story... mp is way better except for IW net and the random maps... prefered dedicated servers... they should come out eventually...

if u are a former CS competitor then u need to step yur game way up. CS was great, but it's ancient history now. i used to play 1.5 and 1.6. although i never tried my hand at any CS competitions, i was pretty cold in CS. the transition from CS 1.6 to modern warfare 1 was insanely huge. biggest transition was gettin used to bein accurate with the console controller. 2nd biggest was how much more deep games are now. there are so many more things u have to be aware of. games have simply evolved within the last 5 -/+ years.

i totally agree. modern warfare 1 was my introduction to the call of duty series. it was a great game, but modern warfare 2 made me completely forget about the first. maybe cuz i only play multiplayer. i haven't really touched any of the single player or co-op stuff yet. MW2 just has so much more unlockable content and customizability. 10/10 from this side.

every game will have glitches at launch. every game. i'm glad that MW2 has had so few setbacks. the javelin glitch is long gone. it was patched in like a week or so. i haven't experienced any of the connection problems some ppl are yappin about. most guys with connection problems might have a NAT setting problem and not even know it. they could just be blaming the game when it's their own fault(s). i know, literally, hundreds of my friends that play MW2. none have any connection problems. the only gripe i have is when they have to migrate hosts and stuff like that.

PC guys are just butthurt about the dedicated server stuff. *shrugs* get over it. it's not a big enough reason to trash a game, that u haven't even tried yet. i'm sure they'll be thinkin about dedicated servers while they're blasting away in an AC130, or raining down bullets from a gunship with a smile from ear to ear. ;)

It usually claims, for me anyways, it searches for under 50ms ping, then 60, then 70 and by then I usually have a game. I have RARELY had connection issues. Some foreign people were having bad connections, but it really should be region patched, no reason I should be playing with ppl from AU and EU, very un-logical.

Anyways, I am still playing it, I see no reason to prestige still, I may just to keep things fresh, but I have about 4 days of play time in on level 70 and I still am addicted as day one.

I have a pretty medicore DSL internet service, and I'm connected via wireless-G. Usually the "searching for games" thing gets up to 110 or 120 ping before joining a game. And you know what? It's not noticeably laggy at all. I can snipe people sprinting across my screen just fine. My bullets land where I put them. :D

No. CS is a much more competitive game than COD and that is pretty much fact; not based on my opinion but just look at competitive gaming web sites. COD does have competition but nowhere near the level of CS/CS:S. CS:S requires much more precision with your shooting and has much faster "twitch" gameplay. CS is THE perfect blend of twitch (doom/quake) style shooters and team based play (SOCOM/GRAW etc). Also, from a competitive perspective, HDR in CS:S is BS. It DOES inhibit competitive play. The level of detail and HDR in MF2 is hard for competitive players to adjust to.

You basically are saying that games have "evolved" and relating that to competition. Diablo and CS 1.6 are ancient and still highly competitive. Evolved for competition has NOTHING to do with details, graphics, "perks" and other things that do nothing for the competitive FPS gaming scene. People that play CS/CS:S typically do better in other shooters than say COD/BF2 players do when they try CS:S. They usually can't adjust to the twitch style gunplay and the needed accuracy of headshots. I found COD to be one of the easiest games to get into.

i guess it's just different for some then. i wasn't questioning the competitiveness of CS or older games. all i'm sayin is that the newer games today aren't as cut and paste as CS. there are camoflauges, perks, flying debris, and a million other things that add to the game's environment and gameplay. u will have to evolve yur game to accommodate for all the new content, if u wanna stay competitive with today's games. again, not takin anythin away from CS's competitiveness.

me, personally, i stride to be better than good at whatever i am doin. i was way ahead of the average CS player. i will continue to stride to become a great CoD player as well. the transition from CS (pc) to CoD (ps3) was hard cuz i basically stopped playin FPS console games after goldeneye. ever since goldeneye, i have been playin MMO's and FPS's on a laptop. from a laptop with a mouse to a ps3 is a huge leap. especially when i don't game regularly on a console.

I love it, although sometimes it takes 10 minutes to get me into a game, the pairing system is quite frankly appalling.
As to say its unbalanced... I don't think so. People say Chopper Gunners ruin the game; I say try harder because that person has to kill at least 10 people without dying to earn that killstreak reward.
Play & Enjoy the game as it is!

IMHO Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is probably the funnest game I have played all year (on 360). The multiplayer is addicting and the customizable perks and killstreak rewards suck you in. If you liked COD4 and wanted it to expand in the multiplayer sense, COD MW2 is for you.

I dunno for PC, but for 360 the matchmaking takes like 30 seconds or less. Plus the tracking of all your kills and stuff on a central leaderboard means you no longer can cover how bad(or good) you really are.

I know a lot of people hate it for PC because of the porting issues but you should definitely give it a try. Everyone had their own taste

The game is still fun....I think I liked the first one better though, even though there are more perks and stuff on this one.

Does the PC version have 9v9 as well? Or is the cap lifted to support higher numbers? I ask only because I don't own it for PC.

hdr wouldn't be an issue in CS:S if everyone was required to use it. it would still be a level playing field.

i would turn off at least depth of field in mw2, and possibly some of the other settings also.

The game is alright once you get past the whole "the game is broken and is the bane of PC gamers" thing. I suggest visiting modernwarfail2.com to learn about any potential glitches/exploits that may be discovered so you know what to do accordingly.

Multiplayer is great. I have it for PS3 and for PC and they are awesome/the same.

And do yourself a favor and do not listen to those who complain about the campaign being short. Yes the campaign is short, but the game itself is very enjoyable. The majority of those who constantly complain about a short single player are the ones who pirate the games and never get a chance to play multiplayer.

Don't buy the game off of eBay. Amazon has new ones for $53 with free shipping. A few extra bucks ensures that the game will work on Steam.

    Yeah screw the campaign,

COD MW2 is all about multiplayer, after all, when single player is done, its the multiplayer that keeps you around.

I haven't even started my single player campaign, been playing online and spec ops

I play only on the PC, and ^ this is the primary reason I never bought MW2, and don't plan to, in the future. COD4 had a decent SP campaign, but the awesome MP and the excellent local servers (+ online community) in my city were the reasons why I was so addicted to it for months and months :D

Since MP is heavily crippled in MW2, I see no reason to buy/play it.

MW2 Pro's and Con's... I bought it about 3 weeks ago on console.. (I know let the jeering begin).
    Pros
    1. The game is just fun (multiplayer)
    2. Community (Cant count how many times I laugh through a match or make others laugh.
    3. Variety of weapons and perks.
    Cons
    1. Snipers are way too powerful and accurate even at short range. Anotherwards you shouldn't be able to use a sniper rifle if you are standing!
    2. The hacking has to stop! Period! I can't tell you how many hacks I have seen so far. YES ON THE XBOX! The memory card hacks need to come to end! I am so tired of dual 1887s shooting me from across the map. Rediculous!
    3. Noob Tubes should be completely removed from Hardcore. Lets face it, if you want to run around and tube, just go to standard deathmatch with the kids. (only standard grenade launchers as secondary weapons should be allowed.)
    4. Needs to be a new PERK called "DETECTION". This perk allows you to identify campers after they have been stationary for over 20 seconds, regardless of cold blooded or ninja. This would make the game more competitive and less (one guy running around with six other campers). Especially on Hardcore, which is all I play now. From what I can tell the camping seems to be popular with the 420 crowd.

These are just my opinions... The game is great. The potential is great.

I dont blame the players... you can't fault someone for taking advantage of the system. It is now time to fix the system.

    Best wishes,

    StevenX

HA! I beat this game in like 7 hours... my girlfriend kept nagging me the whole time also. I found flaws in walls of buildings... i could actually see through the building in one level.. almost like i could walk through a wall but you really could not keep walking.. just can see through it.

    ^ i agree with them

There are too many aimbot and wall hack cheaters and IW its not doing anything about them. The other day i couldnt even spawn without getting killed from one of them from long distance and yes i saw the killcam each time and they was just blatant cheating. With the console version of MW2 you never see any of these problems with and im glad i spent the $60 bucks on and gave back my friend's PC copy of MW2 and I went back playing COD4 which some of the modded servers have some of MW2 maps on it :D

I recommend to buy the console version of MW2 or save your money and wait like me for dedicated servers to be added in MW2 PC.

But other than the crippled multiplayer the game is still good

King19, did you not read my post. People are memory card hacking the consoles too now. I went into one match last night and everyone had unlimited grenade launchers, missles and ammo. Meaning it looked like the apocolypse with fire raining from the sky. It was that bad. People were shooting ulimited RPG's and Javelins. Stuff is getting out of hand. (and no I am not talking about one man army perk either)

It's really not crippled. Have you tried it?
Unfortunately, the dual 1887's aren't a hack; they're just mad unbalanced. IW is supposedly working on nerfing them a little.

This game way too much bad hype because people bashed it with out even playing it, just jumping on the bandwagon cause of no deds, while deds would make it the best game this year, it is still awesome as is and your missing out if your just going to assume it sucks even if you have not played it.

Also, yes, the 1887s are being nerfed. To be honest if you choose akimbo for ANY weapon it should be your only class, because it can serve as one. It should just be removed for the 1887s though, its still a great single gun.
