Does anyone know if its possible to soft mod the nvs5400/k1000m/k2000m to their geforce counterparts? I know it used to be possible a while ago, with alot of people patching their geforces to quadros, but nvidia patched that with their newer cards, but is it possible to go the other way?(quadro>geforce)

For what purpose? Gaming on laptops doesn't take a significant hit in performance vs. their consumer counterparts. The difference is more with desktop cards.

Yes, it's possible. I have GTX260M and I can reflsh it with quadro BIOS without any problem, and restore the original BIOS. But beaware sometimes the BIOS is not fully compatible and you'll need to flash on "blind" - the easy way is with the old good DOS on flash drive, and modified autoexec.bat with all commands and keys for flashing. Then you just need to type "YES" - all capital then "ENTER", press "Y" + "ENTER" and again press "Y" + "ENTER". That's all .

You're talking about consumer -> workstation card. Workstation cards are pretty much backwards compatible with a consumer card without any need for modifications.

Thanks for moving the thread, sorry (=
According to notebookcheck, the k2000m(which has the same hardware as the 650m) is 16-30% slower than the 650m in games, and around 10% slower than the 640m. I think the only reason it could be slower is the driver optimization that comes with the workstation cards, so if I were able to force the 650m drivers, it would give me a 30% boost in gaming performance.
I want to go workstation>consumer for the gaming performance bump, because the quadro drivers are bringing it down in games.
    Hoping this is possible!

Just modify the INF file (get them at laptopvideo2go), install the geforce drivers, and whoila, you have a GT 650M. The lowest clocked one that is, considering you find GT 650M ranging from 735-900MHz, while your K2000M will be stuck at 745MHz (which is part of the reason why you see notebookcheck rating the 650M 16-30% faster. Its no problem doing it this route. Impossible to go the other way though, from GT 650M to K2000M.

That said, I think Quadro`s should do pretty much equal in terms of gaming performance since new optimized drivers are released for the Quadro as well. It may be that you won`t see the performance boost you was hoping for and your hope is to overclock the K2000M to the clocks mentioned above and possibly flash the vbios with these clocks if you are certain your notebook can handle the extra heat

    ^I appreciate the quick reply!
After I modify the INF, will I be able to go back to K2000M?
Also, why is quadro>consumer possible and not consumer>quadro? Isn't the hardware identical?

Nope the hardware is not identical. You gotta do some intricate soldering on the geforce cards to make it a Quadro card. The memory is different, Quadro use much more expensive ECC memory.
It was possible to soft mod some Geforce to Quadro earlier though but now there is a hardware difference.
Atleast this is what I have gathered.

If you want to go back to K2000M again, just delete the INF/GT 650M drivers you just installed, and reinstall Quadro K2000M drivers :)

I think it should be mentioned that you're not likely to see the sort of performance that some Geforce 650's do because the Quadro K2000 has DDR3 and not DDR5 RAM.

Let us know if there are any performance differences. From my experience, I haven't seen any significant benefits in performance (FPS) of SC2 or CS:S by changing the INF file to its GeForce counterpart. As stated, don't expect to see performance on par with the GDDR5 version, but at the very least do actual game benchmarks to compare any performance difference before and after you mod the INF file.

Bingo! The DDR3 is the limiting factor here. I doubt you will see differing results while gaming by flashing to 650m.
