so i've been playing dota, 1080p all maxed except vsync off, and i get 45-55fps. i got a clevo w230ss, with 860m and 4700qm. used to get solid 90-100+ fps at these settings before reinstalling windows. for the life of me i cannot find the issue. disabled nvidia battery saving for gaming, vsync off, power plan set to balanced... in full screen i get a more stable 60fps but not more. in borderless window which i prefer cause i often play with external display connected, it hovers at 50fps with some dips very noticeable and irritating...

i'm sure i am just missing some obvious tick in some menu window...?

did you make sure the game is using the 860m and not the intel gpu? i've found several new games still try and use the wrong gpu.

yeah, turned on the little nvidia icon next to clock, shows dota2 is using dedicated graphics... dedicated 4600 while is capable, only manages 20-30fps at these settings...

edit: so the nvidia gpu sits at 60-70% use, it's not overheating, fps is sitting at 50ish in dota2. 3d mark, other games use 100% gpu. for the god of me i cannot figure out what the hell is wrong with this thing!

edit2: changed dota2.exe power settings from adaptive to max performance which made no difference. adjusted a few settings in the config file suggested here http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=138997 which did nothing to remedy it either... overclocking the GPU does give extra fps in dota2, however GPU use is still capped at up to 70%... i am completely baffled

I guess you've done a fresh install of the drivers? that's what i do when a game goes all slow, if that doesn't fix it i just reinstall windows :)

Uninstall all the NVIDIA and Intel drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller... Then run CC Cleaner and clean the registry... The install the Intel and then the NVIDIA drivers... restart each time you install the driver... Also try the 344.75 drivers.. The newest ones break OCing in maxwell cards..

@ RanCorX2 i am on a fresh install, didn't have this issue on old one, it was just too filled with junk, so i did a fresh install.

@ TomJGX did a clean reinstall of drivers, used 344.75 instead of latest, and i am getting a steady 60fps now, though gpu use is still at 70% playing dota2. so it has remedied it somewhat, doesn't seem to give me a noticeable stutter anymore, at least. also now when i disable power management in nvidia control panel, gpu usage does go over 70%, saw it shot up to 78%, however, it still seems like something is forcefully limiting it to 60FPS in game, and correcting slightly when it dips below. HOWEVER it's not bloody working and the dips can be felt in dota2 when a fight breaks out... Feels like some nvidia toy feature thing... no idea how to disable.

Haven't got a higher refresh rate display to test it on, to see if it'd use more gpu, to try and reach max monitor refresh rate or not...

edit: reinstalled windows AGAIN, from a newer ISO, reinstalled all drivers etc. clean as a whistle, redownloaded steam as well as dota2, still same story... unless someone can suggest something i surrender. something is cutting GPU usage off at 70% ONLY for dota2. csgo skyrim everything goes all out... dota2 stuck at 70%, it boosts fine, but gpu use still at 70%... didn't happen before reinstalling everything clean either... i will hate forever whoever put some stupid option somewhere impossible to find...

edit again: we all love some graphs http://i.imgur.com/P5Fu40T.png the in game fps seems rather stable 60fps, with dips in larder team fights. it behaves like it tries to keep 60fps, sort of like vsync, but instead limiting GPU usage if that makes sense...
