after applying the newest driver (180.48), some games frame rates have gone down the drain. Call of duty 5 is around 20 ( everything maxed, no af,aa), need for speed undercover too ( mixed settings, medium, high). But the weirdest thing would be that even call of duty 4's framerate is 20, and slows down very often. Before i played the game with ease, everything max, not even 1 slowdown. Is it the new driver or am i missing something?![]()
Oh and i've also heard that overclocking the 8600M GT gives an increased performance? is that true?

might be the new driver, i'm not very happy with it either. for some reason, my 3dmark score dropped about 1700 (yes, you read that right) points.
about OCing: yes, it will increase performance, but it will also void your warranty and shorten the GPU's lifespan. -
If its hurtng your FPS, go back to your old drivers...
Yep, overclocking will help in performance, but will shorten the life of it. Especially, since the 8600 could be defective and then OC'ing would even shorten it more. So, i recommend not Overclocking... -
i overclocked my old 8600m gt all the time and it didnt void my warranty.

Well the one i was using before that was the 180.42 beta i think, and that one just kept crashing my laptop. I forgot which driver i had before that. It was probably the most stable of them. Btw, do i need to uninstall my drivers then install a new one. since that is not something i do. i usually just install the new one without uninstalling the old one.
True, but aren't those the 8600 on the mac pro's? or the 8600 in general. I'll stay away from overclocking it then. -
No, dont uninstal the new ones or the GPU may not operate and then you will have no display. Im not sure, but go get the old ones and just try to install.
No, all the 8600's, 8400's, 8800's are all possibly defective. Yep, stay away from OC'ing. -
it will revert to the hard coded drivers, he will still have a display.
un-install those so there is no conflicts -
Ok, i wasnt sure.
I know thats the way it works on desktop cards, but wasnt 100% about notebook cards.
-
yeap, same deal with laptops
-
apparently the 180.70 are out, should i give those a try and see how it fairs? or just go back to the old drivers. are 178.24 any good?!
-
I guess try the nw ones, then if not help, revet back to the old ones.
