I am looking to get the Sony AR31S in the near future (if they ever arrive in this part of the work....Ireland).
I am not a huge gamer and that is not the purpose of purchasing the laptop (its more for 3-D video editing, sports analysis, blu-ray storage, etc.)
However there is game/simulator I have quite an interest in, the Microsoft Flight Simulator X (latest version). I hear and have read that this game requires "intense" CPU performance and I am wondering if this laptop (as powerful as it may be) with its NVIDIA 7600GT 256MB graphics card will be capable of running the game at full detail (or quite close at least). Oh and it will be using VISTA and DirectX 10 as well hopefully. (Full Spec below)
If graphics card is not good enough would the NVIDIA 7900GTX like with Dell make much difference and can it even be installed on a Sony??
I hope there is much more knowledgeable people than me about gaming and graphics performance so I would much appreciate any suggestions or feedback?? Thank You!
Regards,
eoindoyle

You won't be running DirectX 10 games on a DX9 graphics card. Just a heads up that they'll run in DirectX 9 mode.

Only 1 post is needed, I replied to your first.

I'm using an Evesham laptop with a 256Mb nVidia GTX7800 card with Flight Simulator X. With all additional traffic (aircraft, cars, boats etc), I'm getting acceptable framerates (20+).
You might some useful info at http://flightsimx.co.uk (my site - gratuitous plug!)

Lysander,
Once Vista and DirectX 10 are released fsinsider.com will release an update that will enable Flight Simulator to take advantage of all their new capabilities.

no,
Lysander is right
you CANNOT run DX10 on a DX9 card (which the 7600 is)
you will have to run it in dx9 mode (or dx9L)
you can run vista though
but keep in mind that the 7800gtx is much faster then the 7600gt and that you CANNOT upgrade your graphics card, and especially not to the 7900gtx which are only available on 17 inch+ notebooks due to heat and size issue
EDIT: the 7900gtx is about 2-2.5x more powerful then the 7600 -

Before the DX10 update for FSX a Service Pack 1 for FSX is slated to be released in the near future, and will hopefully conquer most performance issues.
