As the title suggests, I know I've become the guy that keeps asking when is x and y coming out, or if there's any speculation out there, but yeah... Anyone heard any word about the 280M GTX/4870 Mobile/4870X2 Mobile? Also, would you guys think that if the big HD notebooks (18.4"+ platforms) will be able to and possible supposed Tri-Sli/CFX in notebooks? Just a dream, maybe...

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to ask, does it look like it would be worth it to wait for these?

I doubt its any time soon. Sli maybe in one of those huge desktop replacements with a desktop cpu. but tri-SLi dosnt seem possible. just buy a 9800m gtx and be happy. even if gtx 280m were to come out soon, it cant be THAT much better 30-50% increase max. just speculation though

seriously?! next year? I thought at least since AMD had the 3870 mobile lying around for at least 3 or 4 months by the end of the year they'd crank out a 4870 mobile, and then nvidia will come out with the gtx in q2 of next or something in and around there...

I own the Toshiba X305 and had the X205 sli1. I love the power both notebooks contain. Although my gripe with gaming notebooks is that it needs to be more mobile, and have better battery life. It's only good if your just moving from room to room in your house, since it can weigh down on you especially if you catch the bus. So bringing it with you to the coffee shop is a hassle.
Oh, and a SLI configuration just adds more to the weight and drains battery faster, also produces more heat. My X305 with a single 9700m gts is lighter and more powerful than my x205 Sli1 with 2 8600m gt's. So maybe that notebook you mentioned might be a long time in the development stage.

I really don't think weights an issue, if someone's having trouble lifting and carrying anything 12lbs and under, they need to go to the gym, or wherever it is they can find some nice resistance training for a few months. Better yet, stuff it in a backpack with some nice lumbar support and padding, and most of your problems are gone... And as far as heat dissipation goes, I think its high time we got some high-end notebooks with built-in maintenance free liquid cooling, then we can get into REAL desktop replacement business! And I know what you're going to say, and I would just reply that its very possible and I've heard of people already trying to do this, and I sincerely think that just like every other industry that has become a victim of greediness, companies like clevo/dell/apple/compal need to get off their arses and start working with great startup companies like Asetek and CoolIT, and make some magic happen under the hood...
