A notebook I bought doesn't have a mixer panel. I have to place a microphone next to a speaker, if I want to record computer generated video and sound - for instance video conferencing - which is not pratical.

The Sigmatel soundcard can't be changed as it is part of the notebook's innards (don't know how else to describe it).

I need a multimedia card -is there anything I can do to rectify the situation?

External sound card maybe? I heard Creative has USB and PCMCIA sound cards.
