    I need some help...

I purchased Splinter Cell: Double Agent from Steam a few weeks ago, and the game runs fine with the exception that the audio stutters when I'm moving the character...if I remove my hands from WASD, sound plays fine...otherwise, real bad stuttering...

I've read the numerous threads about texture incompatibility with nVidia 8-series cards, the complaints about having to have SM3.0 compliant cards, and single core affinity...

I don't believe any of the above are the issue I'm experiencing...I've already tried the single core affinity...no change in sound behavior...I'm not having any texturing problems...and the stuttering occurs whether I'm running at 1600x1200 with shading and textures on high or I'm running at 640x480 with shading off and detail set to low...

The game runs off the Unreal engine, and other games that use the same engine have no problem (graphics or sound) on my laptop)...

I have an XPS m1710 with a Sigmatel onboard audio solution (my only complaint about my notebook, but seems everyone is using onboard audio these days)...I believe that's the culprit...

I went to the 'System' folder under the SC :DA Steam installation and there are about two dozen .ini files, half of which appear related to the XBox...from poking around in the .ini files, it appears that SC :DA uses the 'Dare' audio subsystem which is different from UT2004 and the like...but I can't find any latency/pre-cache settings for sound...

Anyone had a similar problem and able to solve it?

    Thanks.

Lol this game is a POS on PC. Ubi even abandoned patches for it just a couple months after it was released, and the price dropped to $20.

Sorry I am not any help, just thought I'd share my 2 cents.

Poorly developed though the game is (I own it), the problem in question likely isn't related to the game.

I would recommend one of two things:

    - ensure the audio drivers are up-to-date. Refer to the manufacturer's webpage for driver support

    - uninstall your current drivers and allow Windows to automatically find and install audio drivers for you.

Let us know how it goes.

The directory structure is very similar to Unreal Tournament 2K4...and just like UT 2K4, there are .ini files in the 'System' folder for configuring the engine...on my previous laptop, I had to adjust some of the setting to eliminate a 'popping' sound while playing UT 2K4...and anyone remember Half-Life 2 when it first came out? Major sound stuttering when loading textures...there was a configuration workaround until Valve released a patch...I was hoping I could do something similar with SC :DA...

Part of the problem is that there are over 2 dozen .ini files, and I can't tell what half of them do...several have 'Xbox' in the title so I believe they're discardable...

And in my quest, I've seen what you've mentioned...very poorly done port...which is a shame...I love being able to take my games with me on the go (laptop)...so if a game is released for the 360 and PC, I usually buy it on the PC...

And I enjoy playing these type of games...basically Tomb Raider in a techno-military thriller environment...I loved Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow...and this game starts out so cool...jumping out of an Osprey into a lake and swimming up the intake structure of a power plant...and from what I've read, the storyline has a good-bad value system similar to the Fallout series...such high hopes, but I won't play it with the sound like it is...

I'm going to bother Ubisoft, but I think you're right, Thund3rball...I doubt the developers have much interest in helping anybody...fortunately, it was a deal on Steam for me so I'm more out the enjoyment of playing the game vs $40...

Yes it is too bad really, I did enjoy the earlier SC games. I also like the Tomb Radier games too! I got Anniversary from Steam for $5 - woot! Haven't finished Underworld yet though. Legend was great I really liked it. The old TR games I only played in small spurts at the time. I found the controls difficult.

It's the sound card. I had the same issue for a year until I found my answer. You should download Driver Genius Professional then find a serial code for it on YouTube. It downloaded a SigmaTel Audio driver that was created in 2009 O_O
