Hi guys, I have a simple question. Since these two games are part of the Steam deals of the week, and I have never played any of them (or any Tom Clancy title, if that matters) I would like you recommendations on which game is better.

I know they are cheap, but I want to try one of this genre and if I like it I'll get the other.

From my research Splinter Cell is deemed as a great game, while Double Agent was bashed as unoriginal (same game, new paint). Considering I have played none of these series, which one would you recommend me go for?

    Thanks a lot.

I enjoyed Double Agent and it is visually more appealing than the original. The original was more ground-breaking though.

Not sure whether either play that well on Vista though?

I played Double Agent a couple months ago (on Vista), I thought I was getting a good deal at $9.99, haha. Let's put it this way, I don't finish all my games. I finished Double Agent, I'm not sure if it was because it wasn't overly long or if it was a decent game.

I will warn you though that there are some bugs in it... it's not the greatest game in terms of that. I don't remember too much crash to desktops but I know that some people had that problem. There is one or two times where you are trying to crack a safe and the mini-game just DOESNT work... I went online and you have to walk slowly towards the safe or press up and left to make it move... I dunno, but it was dumb.

Overall it was a pretty good game though. It was an interesting game mechanic to be trying to keep both the good guys and the bad guys happy, since you were undercover. I didn't find it challenging at all though on medium difficulty to keep them both happy.

Splinter Cell 1 I played years ago.... I did just buy it again though for 4.99, so I'll be playing it again in the future. It definitely won't have the same graphics or quite the same gameplay, but it's still worth the $5 IMO.

Well, it is expected the graphics wouldn't be the same. So you mean the gameplay is better in Double Agent than Splinter Cell 1?

    Thanks for the input.

Well like I said it's been more than a few years since I played Splinter Cell, but from memory and the obvious evolution of the game, you will be a little more limited in SC1 than SC4. Less items to use, less things you can do, etc... but as far as gameplay is concerned, it's probably a toss-up... because Double Agent is more buggy, so SC1 may be a better experience.

They're both pretty similar games though, stealthy limited action games, where stealth is rewarded. If you like these types of games though, I don't think you can go very wrong with either.

I will say though that Double Agent kind of went against the whole "stealth" thing though... in that you still HAD to be stealthy, sneaking around and not getting into big gunfights, yet almost all the levels and missions were during the day in broad daylight! Made it interesting...

SC1 was almost completely done at night. True stealth.

Ok, thanks for the help. I guess I'll start with true stealth first.
