Anyone getting it? What do you think of the new gameplay?

I am debating on getting it tomorrow. I pre-ordered it for the xbox 360, but after researching the game I found out they took out spies vrs mercs online, which was one of the only reasons I was actually buying it this time.

Because of this, it might not be worth a buy, but only a rent. What does everyone else think?

With current DRM, no thanks. I ***LOVE*** <3 all the Splinter Cell games, but refuse to buy with the stupid Ubisoft DRM requiring constant internet connection.

I would have purchased it but the DRM means, not anymore. I don't care how epic a game is. Luckily there is a huge library of excellent games that don't have that type of DRM.

From the one review I read on shacknews... it sounds like this is a solid rental at best anyways. It's short and even on the hardest setting the game is just too easy with all the new mechanics they added. You never feel any tension or like your really in peril. It's probably fun but not anything like the first games that actually offered some challenge. Add in the DRM and this is an easy skip it imo.

I pretty much lost all care when it was changed from it's original design and inception (like Bourne Identity meets Assassin's Creed), and the DRM inclusion was the nail in the coffin.

Why would you get it with the terrible DRM that is going to be included with the game? When will Ubisoft get the message? Us PC gamers will refuse to buy a game that requires constant online verification. What if the internet goes down or you are somewhere with no internet? Then you can't play the game.

It's ridiculous and if you buy this game you are letting Ubisoft know that will stand for such acts in the future. Ubisoft is seriously shafting PC gamers with DRM like this and we should not stand for it if we value the future of PC gaming at all.

I wish I could say 32 euros isn't much for a DX9 game with draconic DRM, and crippled game mechanics.

For me I'd say $25 USD is too expensive never mind 25 Euros.

So shame for UBI and the DRM

SC is a really great game it always was at least for me. but with this DRM thing its just nonsense.

They cant stop piracy no matter what they do, there is a way to hack it.
I always buy games that i really love, and with this thing they will loose PC market and hope not to convince them to stop making games for PC.

    This just not right.

I definitely will enjoy, and coop campaign is 5-6 more hrs, and spec ops... not bad, if you look little brighter

Well when you get to the end in one sitting and realize you now need a new game to play and you just spent $60 on this.... you might feel different, lol.

Sorry but this is overpriced. For instance Crysis Warhead is 4-5 hours and was $30. FEAR Reborn DLC is a few hours and $10. Borderlands General Knoxx DLC is $10 and like 10 hours.

Yes if you include the other features you might feel you got your money's worth but a $60 SP game is usually 10-15 hours of SP gameplay. This game should be $40 max.

Save your money and rent this game. You'll have your fun in one weekend and it's done. Buying it is a total waste.

Playing Borderlands and all DLCs atm, great game, Crysis and Warhead played and finished yr ago, FEAR2 is so mediocre, i dont wanna spend money on that crap...

And I preordered Conviction for 32euros + long sleeve t-shirt :p. If I dont buy it now, its just matter of time when i will gonna buy it.

Just one example. CODMW2 was 6hrs short, million and a half people bought it. And everybody have aversion of all new UBI games just because really horrifying, draconian DRM...

That's the unforutnate thing now. You're almost better off renting the console version of the game because single player is so friggin short. Too bad you can't rent PC games, but it shouldn't be that way. Original SC had long, fun, and diverse single player experiences.

Too bad that the norm these days is a game only lasting 5-10 hours on average.

Lots more single player maps for Crysis. Some of them are quite good.

Okay well I posted in the other forum, but here's my mini review of splinter cell: conviction:

    Story:

The Story is really short. It doesn't have the feeling of old Splinter Cell games, which were challenging, long and had great twists. Conviction's story is fast, and you pretty much know what will happen next. This makes the story boring, and too much like a run and gun shooter.

The maps are very closed, and you feel like you only have 1 path to get through the map. There's no secret paths, which means no avoiding enemies. You must face them head on. If there are some other ways around, the game makes it very obvious. If you can climb a pipe to get in a building, you can clearly see it. This makes the game very boring, and very predictable. There is no imagination.

    Game play:

The new game play is nothing like the old splinter cell games (which doesn't mean that it's better). Ubisoft turned the game from a stealthy, slow paced game into a run and gun shooter like rainbow 6. Instead of avoiding enemies, hiding in the shadows and only appearing when necessary to pounce on unsuspecting enemies, In conviction you always have to fight the enemies. This means "Superman" Sam fisher goes against 20 enemies, running and gunning them down to get through the level. This doesn't sound bad if you were playing Modern Warfare, but a Splinter Cell game is no place for this.

I miss being able to do a lot of the stuff from the old Splinter cell games like being able to carry dead bodies. This seems like a must. If your trying to stay hidden, then you don't want the CPU to find dead bodies. This is one of the things that ruined splinter cell.

Movements in the game feel very limited. Yes, they added the cover movement, which I do like, but you still feel like your very limited when moving through the map.

I also feel like the game is very limited with controls. You pretty much have the A button, left trigger, and shoot. To interrogate an enemy, you press X, which reminds me of some final fantasy games.

Ubisoft should open up the game more. Allow players to move, and explore the map. Combining the movements from a game like Assassins Creed into a game like splinter cell would be amazing. Players would have the ability to do anything they wanted, making the game feel much more authentic and free.

    Conclusion:

The game wasn't terrible, but it I definitely expected more, especially after all of the delays. The campaign is no more than 5 hours on realistic, and there is nothing in the game that would want me to keep playing like human vs. human online. Facing Unlimited waves of CPUs gets very tedious, and not fun at all. I don't usually buy single player games (yes there is coop, but it is only 4 maps and not that much fun), but when I do, I expect a game that will last more than a day. I definitely should have only rented this game, as II am already bored of it after less than a week. I can only play online against the CPU so many times.

I bought the game from EB games (gamestop) on Tuesday. I have been deciding for the past few weeks weather I would buy it or not, but I ended up getting it. They have a deal going on that if you return the game within 1 week, then I can get full store credit.

There are 2 problems: If I return the game, there really are no games out that I want.

If i keep the game, I will be bored with it, but I do get the play the future soldier beta in the summer.

Anyways, for a single player game, This is BY FAR the shortest that I have ever played. I usually don't beat campaigns for a couple weeks because I like to play online, but that is boring because it is not true person vs. person.

I think I'm going to return the game to gamestop and get the $70 store credit and save for a good game. I think it is my best bet at getting my money back from this game, but i really want to play the future soldier beta.

Yes the campaign was 6 hours (still longer than spliner cell) but there is a whole online game portion, which was their main selling point. It has hours (even days) of play time. Playing online in TRUE person vs. person Doesn't get boring that fast. I have never played a single player game more than once, and cannot see playing it repeatedly.

IF Splinter Cell conviction had Specs vs. Ops (TRUE person vs. person) then I would 100% keep this game. It would give me hours of fun, just like double agent gave me. I cannot play online with someone else battling waves of CPU's. It gets tedious, and not fun at all. And please don't give the lame excuse that the game system wouldn't work in person vs. person matches. They could have made it work one way or another. If they have a 5 hr campaign, then I should expect one hell of an online experience.

Co-op In splinter cell is not really fun. It is 4 maps that you play through, and how long does that take? a few hours? then your done.

You cannot argue that $70 is worth a 5hr single player and a 3 hour coop game. If it had specs vs ops then I would 100% keep the game. I do not feel as if I got my moneys worth buying this game. I knew that it did not have specs vs ops when I bought the game, but I thought hey, the single player must be pretty long, fun and interesting, so I thought I would buy it.

    Thank You, but no.

Yeah people don't buy MW2 for the single player. If that's all they cared about they would just pirate the game, honestly. People buy MW2 for the multi-player which allows for years of enjoyment until the next COD game or whatever the makes of the game with their new studio come up with.

Thats probably just because your bad at it. It is one of the best online games ever made, you just have to know how to avoid tubes and play.

Splinter Cell ha no online now whatsoever. Co-op doesn't count and person Vs. CPU doesn't either. Ubisoft ruined one of the best series ever.

And "best online game that you've ever played" oh thats so wrong... Have you ever played MW1 maybe? CSS? L4D1-2?

Yes I've played mw1, css and lfd, and have played every call of duty ever released. My favorite was call of duty 2, but I still like all of them.

Anyways you haven't even played the new splinter cell, so you cannot say it is better than mw2. Even you say you loved the old splinter cells, and so do I, but conviction is nothing AT ALL like the old ones. If you do not like call of duty, then you definitely will not like the new splinter cell. It is now a run and gun game, just like call of duty, you do not hide and sneak around enemies like in the old games, you kill them all. The stealth part of the game just isn't like the old games, and when you play it, I'm sure you won't like it as much as the old ones.

MW1 maybe have nadespam, MW2 has tubenoobs :).

I am almost certain returning the game tomorrow.

Has anyone heard of the game Alan wake? It's for the 360 only, but looks like it has one of the best stories ever made for a video game, and looks like there will be many sequels to it.

It comes out in less than a month, so I will probably get it. After playing splinter cell, I need a game that has a good story and a long storyline.

See, I thought that MW2 single player was absolutely epic! Easily one of the best times Ive had with any single player game, despite how short it was...much better than BC2 for sure! (which felt more like a MW2 rip-off story wise).

Splinter Cell Conviction I cant wait for...I hope that its not dumbed down for PC users though...I know Bioshock certainly was!

How do you know it's going to be:

    a) good
    b) long

That game has been in development for over 5 years with many pushed back release dates. The PC version was scrapped to make it a 360 exclusive citing the PC is "too intimate" for the experience the game brings.

IMHO, this game sounds like it may end up a patchwork of hits and misses or just be a downright miss. No need for me to worry about it though as I don't own a 360 *shrugs*.

Well the game looks like it has one of the best stories ever made for a video game. It looks like it doesn't give you random tedious tasks (like AC1) to do just to make the game seem long.

The plot is supposed to be made more like a movie, and I think (and hope) it will be a good change of direction from other games. (Nothing can be worse than splinter cell's change).

Not that it matters, but the graphics also look amazing, which is nice when compared to splinter cell's texture detail.

Anyways, I thought I would give it a try. There seems to be no other game coming out that I want until NHL 11, Medal of Honor and future soldier. It looks like Q4 is going to have a lot of good games coming out (for the 360).

I just need a good single player story to play through. Right now I'm playing AC2, and I like it so much better than AC1 (and especially SCC)

I also think that they decided to scrap the PC version in order to make more sales. It will probably get pirated because it is a single player only game, thus less people buying it for the 360. I am not surprised that more and more game are going to turn into console only.

Ya I thought the same things about Bioshock 2 LOL.

No instead Bioshock 2 gives you one task to do over and over and over for 10-15 hours. Wheee that was fun! /end sarcasm

Well if Bioshock 1 was any indication the story and plot were going to be a mind trip in 2! Oh wait, it was derivative and ultimately unremarkable with flat characters and straight ahead storytelling. /sighs :(

Just saying I wouldn't be so sure about Alan Wake that's all. Don't pre-order it, wait for some good feedback before you jump in. Remember Alone in the Dark? Ya... lol. Personally I am not interested in SCC or the upcoming AW. As for AC2... definitely a great game and a shame about the DRM.
