I just want to know if the difference in gaming and general performance of the notebook will be notable if the 2 configurations that I have choice between are:
T8300 2.4 Ghz Core 2 duo, 2Gb ram and Nvidia 8600GS
OR
T8100 2.1 Ghz Core 2 duo, 3Gb ram and Nvidia 8600GS

AFAIK the CPU and GPU work together in-game, so a better CPU would be good. As far as RAM goes, it helps with the loading times and multi-tasking.
I'd go for the 2.4GHz -
Absolutely go for 2,4 ghz! the memory isnt important since you can always upgrade them yourself to 4gb really cheap. the cpu however isnt easy to upgrade, and in most cases it cant be done at all.

Why don`t you tell us what you want the laptop to do, fill out the form here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=29271 and you might get better sugestions...

The thing is I was looking to get LG P300. It used to come with the 2.4Ghz config but now it is only available with the 2.1 config. So thats y I was wondering how much difference would there be.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
Very little real world performance loss.

Iceman's reply makes me feel much better. Another question: I was looking at the xps1530 with 8600gt. If i am only looking to run the games at med or low settings, even the latest games will 8600gs be enough or 8600gt is a must for the new games(even for low settings). I only want the fps to be good so that the games are playable. I dont care if the graphics quality goes down a bit.

just a note: your CPU will NEVER bottleneck the GPU cause its not a high end GPU, for gaming both of them is more than enough, but for encoding i think you can spot the difference

If you are using Vista, get the faster processor and buy 4GB of Ram later...more ram in vista is always better.
-
Yea, 16Gb should be enough.

You think 200 windows open at a time is cool? TALK ABOUT 200000! BWAHAHAHAHHA!
By the way, Vista roxxors XP when you have 4GB of RAM.
XP SUCKS! BAHWHAWHAHA.
Spot the difference.
