Hers a compatibility list for your chip:
    http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel945gm/sb/CS-021400.htm

Most graphically intense games do not run on this graphics chip, and even though Stalker might not be on the list, its still pretty graphically intense and I don't think it'll run. You might be able to run it under Directx 8 though.

Yes, but the game is not very well coded and even people with Go 7600 or Mobility X1600's have had trouble running it at decent frame rates. As I said before, you might be able to run it fine under Directx8, but that also depends on how much dedicated VRAM your chip has (being an intergraded graphics chip it might not have enough).

I wouldnt count on stalker running very well if at all. I have a desktop with 4GB of ram and a 7900GTO (almost as fast as a GTX) and it struggled in some parts. Although my settings are up high, your laptop may handle it on low but as i said, i wouldnt count on it.

aan310, what do you care about a cd or disc protection if you won't even be able to boot up the installer?

ya, i installed it and it runs fine, until i try to get into a level. on the client, somthing or another, it crashes. thanks. and Mr._Kubelwagen, i was wondering, because if i would be able to get the game running, it would be nice not to have to bring the disk alont... but i guess that doesnt matter now.

is that why it runs terribly on everyones systems, cuzz its coded bad? i know i cant run it on my desktop at all, but i looked at the recommended rerquirements and you pretty much need a new desktop to run it well, so laptops will prolly have trouble with this

I managed to complete the game on my 5 year old P4 2.5 ghz with a gig of ram and a 9800 pro. It wasn't pretty, though.

"Don't just stand there! Come in!" "Don't just stand there! Come in!" "Don't just stand there! Come in!" "Don't just...."

"Get out of her Stalker!" "Get out of here Stalker!" "Get out of here Stalker!" "Get out of he-" *bang* Luckily Duty didn't see that one so I didn't have all of the Bar after me. :p

I know my desktop is no match for today's machine but it runs STALKER on High with extremely smooth gameplay with STATIC LIGHTNG. However, the fps dropped dramatically when switched to OBJECT DYNAMIC LIGHTING, its still playable ( 20-30fps) but I would rather go with the smoothness.

Here is the spec of my desktop:

    AMD 64 Athlon X2 5000+
    2 GB RAM
    Nvidia 7600GT 512 MB VRAM

Yeh HDR is the culprit in stalker! The game looks yucky with static lighting tho.

Runs buttery smooth on my laptop, max settings, 2xAA, at 1600x1200.

I haven't tried it on my (significantly slower) desktop, but I got 3.0ghz Pent.D, 2gbRam, and a 7900gs. I'm guesstimating probably medium settings on my desktop.

In the topic of the lighting, however. Complex lighting and shadow operations are often some of the most complex code in a game. Besides AA or resolution, the lighting or shadow quality usually has the biggest performance impact.

One of STALKERS amazing programming errors was the russian roulette it plays with itself on if a CD if needed or not. I think if you use Vista it's not needed but XP it is.

Poor performance in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and you have a strong pc that should run it fine on good settings?
Turn off Dynamic Lightning (Set it to Static lightning) - IT HAS A BUG

    What the bug does:
There is no static lightning in Stalker, the bug makes Static lightning stand for Obyect Dynamic lightning, and the Obyect dynamic lightnig and full dynamic lightning are all the same - full dynamic lightning.

Err. Anyone try updating their game with any patches? I patched mine and the performance went up quite a bit.
