hello i have a vostro 1500 with a 8600gt 256mb, 1gb ram, and 1,6ghz core duo.
I wanted to play stalker and it is very choopy and there are a lot of lags...and when i try to quit the game it takes 2,3 minutes after i can use vista properly again, because everything is so overloaded.
I have this problems on 1024*768 low, mid, high... but if i play games like oblivion and bioshock everythings is smooth and okay.
So whats the problem??? i have the newest forceware driver and i installed the newest patch for stalker...
-
Did you get the latest stalker patch?
You are right it s not normal...Stalker was doing very well with my old gforce 6600 gtx overclocked. I didn t try it with my 8600mgt but it should play like a charm. -
Check out the link in my signature see if any of those optimizations help. Try unholy's suggestion first though as it seems like the most likely solution.
Here are some google results that I found:
Goodluck and let me know how things turn out. -
just use static lighting instead of full/partial dynamic lighting, so far I haven't experienced any problems with it on Vista, everything is very smooth even on my system...
-
i already use static light...but nothings helps, and when i try to look at my framerate over fraps it shows me 30-60 fps. but there are this lags that make the game unplayable! -
I think you're talking about frame skipping.
First you need to get fraps to bencharmk your fps, to do this:
-Start Fraps
-GO to FPS tab
-On the benchmark section select minmaxaverage and FPS
-Start up the game
-Once in the game (not the menu but the game)
-Hit F11
-Play game for about 10 mins
-Then hit F11
-Exit Game
-Right Click Fraps
-Click show benchmarks
-There will now be two notepad files I need you to copy the contents of both and paste them here.
Also, after you have done this go to the link in my signature. If you have stuttering/frameskipping my gudie should be able to help you.

Well, you just have 1 gig of ram, which is the problem. 1 gig on vista+ gaming smoothly is not recommended
-
^he's got a point. The recommended requirements is 2GB. Though you say you're getting 30-60 FPS, which is totatlly confusing me. And yes I totatlly just put 3t's in both of those
.
-
Four t's, actually
-
so i did this thing with fraps and here is my result:
2007-09-30 00:22:12 - XR_3DA
Frames: 13749 - Time: 317815ms - Avg: 43.261 - Min: 0 - Max: 189
and it was verryyy laggyy when i played this...its strange sometimes its playable and it is realitvly smooth but after i restart the game it getts very laggy but then its okay again... and so on and so on
and if i change from game mode to main menu i get first a black screen and then after 10-20 seconds i get to the mainmenu which is very slow too... -
You ran the test for 5 minutes? Are you sure you were never loading a level or on a menu or anything during that time.
If that's so, then you have a major problem, that 0fps min suggets to me that you hit the page file because you don't have enough RAM. Upgrade that immediately. -
-
Have you applied the latest patch?
Also, try this out:
-
up your virtual memory.
-
yeah i will update my ram and then post here to let you know how the game runs then.
but it seems like stalker takes a lot of ressources. when i quit bioshock or other games everything is fast and i see my desktop afer some seconds and its not slow. but when i quit stalker first there is a black screen and then very slow some parts of the desktop appear and only after 2 minutes vista is fully "recharged". Its like 15 different applications are working at the same time, but there is only stalker and everything besides that is closed...i dont kno what the problem is. maybe stalker does some unusefull operations which only makes the game slower and nothing else??? -
STALKER, though a good game, and one that runs much better after the latest patch, is not the best coded piece of game. You could even argue that in some cases it is coded worse than Oblivion is. Messing with the ltx file, turning the dynamic lighting off, and looking around for some of mods might help you.
As well what you are already doing, which is upgrading your RAM, which is good for more than just STALKER. Also, not sure if anyone mentioned this, but try uninstalling the game, defragging, then reinstalling the game and fully patching it again.
It's helped with other games in the past for me personally. -
i bought a 2gb sticks, and the game runs perfect now. It is a huge difference between 1gb and 2gb ram!!! I can play it on high with full dynamic lightning @ 12800x800 with a good framerate.
I payed only 45 dollars for the 2 1gb sticks and every penny is worth. So if there are any guys out there who dont know if they should upgrade to 2gb...YES YOU SHOULD!!!
