    Um, eating.
The original idea was that your character required food and sleep on a regular basis. I guess they removed that from the game. Just use food as backup medkits.
btw, If you want to play STALKER like it was meant to be, try the Oblivion Lost mod. You actually have to eat and sleep in there

3 most annoying things about clear sky:

    1) you cant recruit NPCs from your faction to follow you
    2) you cant sleep (or fast-forward time in any way); please explain to me how it's realistic to be up 24/7; even the bandits sleep, im the only one running around at night; a most glaring omission (hopefully will be fixed in oblivion lost mod if it comes out)
    3) vibros (or fallout not sure what its called in the english version); i was about to attack the stalker base in Cordon (alone, since you cant ask the NPCs to follow you so its more like 'you vs faction' wars, when the warning comes and i have to find shelter in 5 minutes, but nooo it cant just be ANY shelter, the computer PICKS it for you (try to take shelter in another place that makes sense like a concrete tunnel and you'll die...HUH?!), and guess what it picks, the HOSTILE stalker base, thats right i have to RUN to the HOSTILE stalker base and HIDE inside their main compound in 5 MINUTES (barely enough time to get there as im already overloaded on loot and run out of stamina every 5 seconds) or i die...oh but it gets better...i actually DID run to their base and it was EMPTY, as in all the stalkers at the base magically disappeared, so i ran inside the left barracks and hid during the fallout (even though i was enemies with the Stalkers my weapon got automatically HOLSTERED as soon as i got inside their base with no way to take it out again..WHAT?!), but as soon as i tried to walk back out they were ALL BACK (as in instantly reappeared again), a full compound, and as soon as i got to the exit door IT GOT LOCKED right in front of my face, and i was trapped inside the building with no way out (game over)

the lack of recruitable npc's really killed the fun of the game for me; the faction wars idea is genius; if only you could gather a squad together and have them follow your orders and be able to call reinforcements from your faction it'd be one of the best FPSs ever made...its just that some of the design decisions are insane and completely break the experience, not to mention the multiple CTDs that i got when trying to change levels
