Hey all, I finally got my hands on a copy of what looks to be a pretty awesome game, and when I start it up on my laptop, 2.0ghz core duo, 2 gigs of ram, and an x1600 it lags like crazy, I mean I can play HL2, Fear, and Farcry with decent settings, and this drags like crazy on the "low" settings, anyone know what could be causing this? I'm not a terribly happy camper, I bought this laptop to have mobility and the ability to play games, and I can't play this at the very lowest settings possible, what's the deal?

The thing that hits performance the most is the render settings. Try to use the lowest lighting settings (static lighting) and see what happens.

On my nVidia GeForce Go 7700 I set Quality Settings to Maximum @ 1024x640 and the Render settings set to Objects Dynamic Lighting and get around 30 FPS.

    Good luck!

well, i got bout the same setup with a gig less ram. First thing to check is if its on dynamic or static lighting. If its the first option, thats normal. The x-ray engine has not been optimalized for crap... Only a 7900 up will play smoothly. If you're in static, then theres sumthin up.

Yea its pretty crappy anybody with an x1700/7600 or worse can only play with static lighting. The game still looks great but essentially your playing in dx8 mode.

Rayan, thats cool you can at least play with objects dynamic lighting and still get 30FPS on a 7700.

im using an x1800. 1.6 core duo, 1 gig RAM
its tough, but i can run it smoothly with dynamics everything as long as the reso is down on 800x600. But i think its worth it, the lighting is great! wait till your in the middle of a massive storm outside.
check out tweakguides.com for its s.t.a.l.k.e.r tweak lists too -very helpful.

biggest help for me was turning off precaching......
add -noprefetch to the stalker shortcut
wont work for everyone but helped me heaps

    pretty cool game.....

And as I take it, there is ASUS stuff all over the place in the game...

ugh...if you have an x1800 and need to lower the res down to 800x600 just to turn on dynamic lighting it doesn't bode well for us x1600/x1700 owners.

I have my settings at 1440x900 at medium w/static lighting and I think I'm getting 30-40 fps in the outdoors (it's very deceiving because the very beginning of the game is an indoor environment and you get like 60-70fps in the same settings but once you step outside you frame rate drops dramatically).

I'm gonna try your suggestions, thanks!

How is the game anyway? I've been looking for a new FPS because C&C 3 got boring and I've resorted to CS:S for entertainment.

    Is there a multiplayer, too?

i just can't get it, how could it be that people with x1600 and 7600, are struggling to run the game on the lowest settings, with the dynamic lighting enabled, while i'm running it with everything on max, and with the dynamic lighting also enabled, and yet the game is running great. Is the 7900gs that much powerful than these cards?

this game is crap. Doesn't look particularly better compared to other FPS, yet it gets horrible framerate. I can play HL2 max setting at 30fps on my Go7600, and when it comes to this game, graphics looks ok (not better than HL at my settings) but more like a fast slideshow.

Yeah, I didn't even finish a single campaign. It was great for a little while then school started and I lost interest in dedicating enough time to play the campaign or enough to play online.

I have not made it far in this game because of its difficulty.

The begining to me is just like counterstrike.
The graphics are not great but not bad.

Not much of a FPS player myself, so I turned the difficulty to "you're pathetic". Still lost pretty badly at first, until I learned about looting bodies, and running away. Things seem to be going pretty smoothly now. I'm enjoying it. Love the post-apocalyptic feel, especially.

I've got an x1900xt, and have the graphics set on whatever the default "high" settings are, at 1280x800, and it runs pretty smooth.

Play it at 864x480 with objects dynamic lighting and the -noshadow -mblur options and get around 25 fps on my Sony SZ T2600 with Geforce 7400 Go.
(-mblur seems to help smooth out the framerate visually)

Unfortuantly i get the stupid yellow sky/ghost trails with the skybox and only fixes it running in a window. I hope they fix it soon cause i can`t change from the offical drivers.

    Awesome game tho.
