is this game really that demanding? I just loaded this up on my Gateway P7805U FX and it just crippled my system on max setting and 1900x1200 rez. 9FPS. Please tell me somthing is wrong with that. :D Card is a 9800GTS in case you dont know.

    thanks.

LOL.... yeah, that game is pretty demanding if you run it in DX9/10 mode with everything maxed out.

Try run it in static lighting or semi-dynamic lighting (not full), no AA, lower resolution, and see how your frame rate improves.

Make sure you have the latest patch for the game, update your graphics card driver, you know, all the usual things.

Yea, STALKER:CS is quite a bit more demanding than one might think. It does, after all, have huge maps with large numbers of NPC's plus weather, anomalies, etc.

Even my W90 struggles at times with my modded SoC on max. ;)

actually i should have done some reading up on this before buying. Pretty much people are saying the engine is horribly coded.also looks like i have to install every patch before i can play....no wonder it was only 9.99

No you don't need every patch only the final 1.5.10. It's not a game for laptops is the real problem, as well as what is listed above, the AI also does actions without the player present which contributes to it's poor performance. Have you not played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl yet?

Check the tweak guide if you have trouble running it. As it is a very demanding game.

i thought it was a pretty good game. granted it will tax lesser laptops but you can play it well on medium settings just like crysis.
make sure u get STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, it goes hand in hand and both are similiar but different

meh, people will say every game that they can't max out all settings and still run smoothly on whatever THEY have is poorly coded. Fact is, it isn't, I actually get 18-30fps in stalker CS on all lowest 1024x600 res on my GMA950/Atom n270 netbook. Very playable, albeit some areas are absolutely unplayable, and some areas are smooth as heck.

Toy with the settings, this game runs best on DX10.1 cards, the improvement is actually quite huge, and I wouldn't try to max the game out unless your running the absolute best gaming setup, but that doesn't mean you can't still make it look great.

You should start with trying to max out all the settings, run at a lower resolution but obviously the same aspect ratio for quality, and turn down any AA settings, and turn off all sun settings, like sun rays, sun shadows etc. completely turn those off as they're the most taxing, and you probably shouldn't use them without having an HD4850 or higher DX10.1 card.

The thing about stalker, which can be compared to Crysis, is that unlike almost EVERY game out there that people are comparing the performance to, these games run 100% REAL TIME lighting, shadowing, and day/night cycles with extremely high poly count objects and also have parallax occlusion mapping and massive open spaces. Before the devs even released this game, they pretty much said they wanted the game to be scalable from really old, mainstream cards, all the way up to settings that would take full advantage of high end cards running in Crossfire or SLi.

What Unknown said! I played the first one, loved it, but never completed it. Great game non the less. I must install it again... The second one looks really good. More of a focus on team based action rather than solo from what I;ve heard.

Yep i've read the book, watched the film from Tarkovski and played all the games and I always thought like you...Stalker has a substantial and coherent universe/background. I'd love a serie personally speaking cause there's a lot to say. But i'm not against movies if they're done right.
