So I am getting into this with my guild and thought I would check and see if a lot of people tried for the open beta keys today? There are some places online giving them out. Hope to see a lot of you in this mmo as it seems pretty awesome.

Update: First night of open beta was awesome. I was able to get some missions going with a group of friends in several systems. We got into some pretty intense combat and even died a few times having to respawn in the same system on death. I'm impressed with the action and a lot of what I see. This is a beta level product still because so much of the functionality still isn't up and running but from what I have seen this mmo is going to be a winner for a long time to come. Best lol moment so far is we had a Goon dance party at the star dock in sol system.

Adding Klingons, cardassians, the borg, etc. will give this game all kinds of life. People were comparing it to eve last night saying haha its eve only its fun. There are still beta keys flying around online. If you get lucky enough to get an open beta key please look me up or add me as my in game and cryptic name are Xarthos.

 

I just got hold of an open beta key (hopefully leggit) but the free dl servers are full really, so it may be a while before i play.

 

That is great you got a key! I'm patched from yesterday and I preordered so I am ready. Should be on tonight. I'll come and post when I figure out what name I am going to use in game. Hopefully some NBR people can get together.

 

Awesome man, i predict ill be on in 3 days haha! i figure quite a few NBR people will play, lets just hope the games dam good eh .

Yeah, it took about five minutes for it to get cruising. It's fluctuating between 250 and 350 kB/s. Not terrible, but not great. I'm still in line at FilePlanet though. will see how well that goes. But have another 80 minutes to wait before it starts. LOL.

Muahaha, i got onto one of the german servers and am sat at 107, 18 hours to go .

 

I Pre-ordered via steam. I am at 1.5 mb/s . I think it is possible to get a refund b4 the actual release date. Sooo...free access to the beta at fast download speeds, if anyone is interested.

I don't believe they charge you until the game is released. So all you need is a credit card to hold it.

 

It is on my account as a pending charge.

 

I'm finally getting 250-350 kB/s, so it's not too horrible, but I only have 10% of it after 2 hours, so it will be a while. The good news is that by the time it actually comes down, I may not have to wait in a queue to connect to the servers since it's going to be a while before I get to that point

 

Im hoping speed will kick in when some people decide to go to bed , although it most likely wont happen, im fluctuating between 22 and 150.

 

steam downloading for open beta started last night. This morning mine was ready.

I already had the client from file planet though. So I have 2 clients at the moment. Some goon already extracted all the music into mp3 format so I'll listen to that on the way home from work... HAHA

 

GAH! I was in the line at fileplanet and my computer went to sleep and am in back of the line again! D'OH! At least torrent is moving along rather well. Well, kinda avg probably 200kB/sec

What is everyone's career , species, traits? First mmo so trying to see what I should pick. And unfortunately I'm getting 6FPS I don't know whats going on with my laptop.

 

I'm getting 80 to 100fps. I do recommend the latest nvdia drivers because the old ones I was using crashed the game like 7 times. Once I updated at the nvidia site to the windows 7 latest drivers I haven't had any issues.

I'm not sure what to spec. I went for ship operations, phasers, and photon torpedos next.

Phaser guns are pretty hottness. I had a 2500 crit on a Klingon battle cruiser last night running with StarTrek Dental Goonsquad.

 

Is this game really good? Im not a "huge" fan of star trek but this seems interesting .

 

best advice I can give is get a friend to let you try it or try to apply for open beta somewhere where it is available. I love it. Some might not like it.
Some guy was screaming in spatial that its eve only its fun last night. I dont' necessarily think that but I could see buying a lifetime sub for this one.
I asked for Star Trek on blue ray for Christmas. I was a big TNG fan.

Huraaaay 500kb dl, got something nice to enjoy after tommorows exam .

 

Downloaded it on Steam the night before the open beta began (nettop on, went to bed and loadedf it up in the morning after a nice shower...had to wait till 10am PST to play). Its alot of fun, a little confusing at times and they need to do something about the maps and the over world.

TIP: In space combat your default fire all weapons is set to alt+space, I changed that to just space which replaces fire all phasers and changed that to alt+space. The fire all command is because beam weapons have such large firing arcs that the aft can actually fire along with main at forward enemies. Also helps with various types of weapons you may be loaded out with.

 

Hmmm, my default all fire was just the spacebar. But yeah, the maps need a little work. It also should give you the option of pointers to your next destination. I was trying to figure out where I needed to go half the time. It wasn't real clear.
