STO has been free to play since January 17th. Have any of you played it yet, and if so what do you think?
I myself have tried it, and it's not bad at all, I'm kind of surprised by it actually, and for me it'll be a good distraction until the real Star Trek game (Star Trek Excalibur) is released.

I was a part of Beta before it was first released and I have to say they definitely made improvements since then.
I still maintain that ground missions such as the diplomatic ones would benefit from puzzle solving aspects and more dialogue options that can affect the outcome of one or two missions - plus the combat could be better.
Still, as you already mentioned, it's a nice distraction from time to time. -
Going free after so soon (relatively speaking) of public release kinda speaks for itself, I feel ...

I played STO BETA and purchased the retail copy once it released.
Overall, I had an excellent time playing it as Federation.
The major flaw in this game is that the Klingon faction was done half-a$$ and the promises of other factions was never kept, so I quit.
Between BETA and my subscription, I played a total of 2 months.
I'd definitely recommend it now since it's good entertainment for a month or two. Just make sure you pick the Federation for the most enjoyable gaming experience, as PVP is severally imbalanced @ 10FED:1KLING
I only wish Bioware or Blizzard would of created this game because they're known for quality products. Atari (and whoever else involved) are cash-grabbing liars. -

I am playing as the Federation, and I've got to say I'm having a very good time. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I am.

Maybe I'll give it a go again if it's free to play. At launch it was a mess. It felt very little like Star Trek.

Yeah give it a try! Now that I've had a few days to play it, I'm starting to really like it a lot, I'm surprised I'm saying that lol. I find it quite immersive and there always seems to be missions to do. I've been bored of gaming for a while and I just spent more time playing STO last night than I have spent playing any other games in the last two weeks..

Same here.
In fact, I rarely game, and when I do, the desire to play them wears off, but I gotta admit that ST:O has some interesting missions - and the time allotted for it is reasonable these days than what I did the moment it went F2p (which was played the game from about 10pm until 4:30 am).

Game newbie here. Can you post a link to the free Star Trek game?

So how are you guys liking it? I personally find it quite addicting, I just made Captain and have a Galaxy class ship now.

The missions are more interesting than before in beta most definitely... though more choice-like manner responses in diplomatic ones would be better - ground combats or missions certainly need a bit more improvement.
Aside from that... exploring the unexplored 'sectors' which contain no markers or anything makes certain missions exceedingly difficult.
It's flying blind for the most part. -
Seems decent enough for a recently made F2P MMO.
I wont be playing too much though, as i dont really care for Star Trek.
But i would rate it at least 9 out of 10 by first impressions of the game.
Graphics look nice to and run perfectly fine on my HD 6970m. -
